Loop is a subscription management platform built for e-commerce brands on Shopify. Our primary market is the US, with growing presence in Europe and ANZ.

We are scaling rapidly, driven by a strong product and exceptional merchant experience. We achieved ~3x growth in 2024, followed by nearly 3x growth again in 2025. Looking ahead, we are building the team and foundation to drive another 2x growth in 2026 as we accelerate toward our $50M goal.

About the role

As Principal Engineer, you are the highest individual contributor on our engineering team — a force multiplier who shapes not just what we build, but how we build it. You will own the technical vision across our platform, mentor senior engineers, and partner directly with product and business leadership to translate ambitious goals into durable, scalable systems.

Responsibilities

• Technical Vision & Architecture Define and own Loop's long-term technical roadmap. Make high-stakes architectural decisions on data models, system boundaries, and scalability patterns — and drive alignment across engineering teams.
• Engineering Excellence Set the bar for code quality, testing, and observability. Proactively tackle technical debt and reliability risks, and introduce technologies that give Loop a durable competitive edge.
• Cross-Functional Leadership Partner with the CTO, Product, and Business leaders to align engineering strategy with company growth goals. Translate complex technical decisions for non-technical stakeholders with clarity.
• Mentorship & Culture Level up senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews and structured feedback. Champion a documentation-first culture and serve as the final escalation point for complex technical decisions across squads.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a principal, staff, or architect-level role.
• Deep expertise in Node.js + React.js + TypeScript — you've built and scaled production systems with this stack.
• Expert-level SQL skills (MySQL preferred); strong grasp of database design, query optimisation, and data integrity at scale.
• Proven experience designing distributed systems and cloud-native architectures on AWS (Lambda, RDS, SQS, ECS, etc.).
• Strong command of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps practices.
• Demonstrated ability to drive large, ambiguous, cross-team technical initiatives from concept to production.
