Power Systems Technician (Journeyman)

Responsible for independent diagnosis, failure analysis, and repair of power systems and industrial equipment under the supervision of the Power Systems Service Advisor. Duties include but are not limited to: removing, repairing, assembling, and installing components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and technician skill level.

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair engine and generator failures following WSECO time‑requirement guidelines.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs for industrial engines, including common rail fuel systems, SCR/DEF systems, and internal components.
• Identify and fix electrical issues, including Deutsch and Ampseal connectors, battery voltage systems, and various harness types.
• Use service manuals (STW, SIS, parts books) to address technical issues and maintain service records for warranty purposes.
• Communicate promptly and professionally with clients to meet or exceed expectations.
• Support continued education and training initiatives as outlined in the Western States Equipment Technician Career Development Plan (TCDP).

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; associate degree in diesel technology or trade school diploma preferred.
• Minimum of three years experience diagnosing and repairing industrial engines and generators in a Caterpillar or competitive environment.
• Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and ability to obtain DOT Medical Card.
• Proficient with Microsoft products and manufacturer‑specific software (SIS, ET, STW).
• Strong communication skills in spoken, written, and reading English.
• Ability to work overtime with limited notice and maintain consistent attendance.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, walk, climb stairs, lift up to 60 lbs., and perform repetitive tasks.
• Must meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies and maintain a safety‑sensitive status.

Physical Characteristics

• Stand for extended periods, walk, sit, climb stairs, reach (including above‑shoulder), bend, stoop, push, pull, lean, and twist.
• Expose to extreme temperatures and environments.
• Lift up to 60 lbs. following Western States Lifting Policy.
• Meet all applicable safety policy requirements.
