Overview

Diesel Mechanic – Responsible for repairs and preventive maintenance of diesel engines, trucks and/or forklifts. Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform maintenance on equipment. Conduct safety inspections and prepare safety documents required by FMCSA, company policies, and applicable regulations. Interpret work orders and technical manuals. Repair or replace defective parts and systems. Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulations. Regular attendance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on diesel engines, trucks, and/or forklifts.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform maintenance on equipment.
  • Conduct safety inspections and prepare safety documentation as required by FMCSA, company, and applicable regulations.
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals; repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems.
  • Test repaired equipment to verify proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulations.
  • Maintain regular attendance and adapt to additional duties as assigned based on operational needs.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of one year of experience and/or completion of trade school, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Ability to use hand tools and test equipment; must have own tools;
  • Knowledge of general repairs and preventive maintenance criteria; specific knowledge of heavy truck repairs in a commercial environment, including diesel engine system diagnostics;
  • Ability to keep up with changing technology and updates; interest in engines, electronics, and precision equipment;
  • Physical capability to work with heavy equipment and in awkward positions; strength and stamina to lift up to 70 lbs.; ability to walk, twist, bend, climb, and operate in various positions;
  • Valid CDL and acceptable MVR required if driving on public roads; if CDL holder, must be registered with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; self-starter, organized, and able to work independently or in a team;
  • Willingness to work any shift, including nights and weekends, in all weather conditions;
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and a criminal history background check;
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical demands include frequent lifting and moving of up to 70 lbs; vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Frequent standing, walking, handling, reaching, twisting, climbing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and bending; ability to sit or balance as required.
  • Work environment involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles; may work in high/precarious places and in various weather conditions.
  • Noise level ranges from quiet to loud as required by job duties.
