The team

InterDigital Video Lab brings together a team of highly motivated, fast‑paced, and highly skilled researchers with strong backgrounds in video compression, video processing, machine learning, and standardization. We actively contribute to leading video standards organizations, including ISO/IEC MPEG, ITU‑T SG16, JVET, IETF, SMPTE, ITU‑R SG6,3GPP,DVB, and ATSC, alongside mid- to long‑term incubation activities.

The Media Services research group at the InterDigital Video Labhasbroadexperience in energy-efficient technologies in video streaming and high dynamic range imaging.Theresearch groupis dedicated to improving video industry technologies,creatingauthentic, energy-efficient, and high-quality streaming solutions.

Energy‑AwareMediaprojectin the Media Services groupis dedicated to making the entire video delivery chain more energy‑efficient, from content creation through end‑user display, while preserving the authentic, high‑quality experience users expect. The team develops technologies, tools, and standards that reduce the energy footprint of streaming video atscale.

Whatyou’llwork on

The postdoctoral researcherwill investigate how AI-based video processing and generative AI can be madesubstantially moreenergy‑efficient. Your work may include:

  • measuring and modeling energy consumption of AI-basedvideoprocessing and generationpipelines
  • designing energy‑aware neural architectures
  • optimizingmodelinference and deployment
  • developingmetrics for energy-quality trade‑offsinAI‑based video processing pipelines.
  • contributing to emerging standards

Job Summary

InterDigital Research & Innovation is seeking apost‑doctoral researcherto join the Video Lab and focus onenergy‑efficient AI‑based video processing toolsincluding generative AI approaches. As part of the Energy‑Aware Media project, the candidate willcontribute tothedefining the research problem. He willdevelopinnovative algorithms, methods, and standards. Research areas includeAI‑based video processing, generative AI, energy‑efficient AI architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Identifypromising research opportunities.
  • Research, develop, and implement algorithms and prototypes in those areas.
  • Share results through peer‑reviewed publications, invention disclosures, and technology reference implementations.
  • Contribute to the team’s existing research tracks andidentifyopportunities for standardization.

Thepostdoctoralresearch will influence future video technologies used by millions of users worldwide while advancing sustainability in AI‑based video pipelinessystems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalentin computer science, electrical engineering, image processing, signal processing, applied mathematics, ora related field.
  • PhDtopicrelated tosustainability,energyimpact would be a plus.
  • Expertisein learning‑based algorithm development forvideo processing and generation.
  • Proficiencyin Python and C/C++ software development.
  • Strong communicationskills and a collaborative approach to working with the team.
  • A curious, creative, and motivated mindset.
  • Professionalproficiencyin written and spoken English.Proficiencyin French is a plus.

Location: Rennes,FR. Hybrid work arrangement with 3 days per week on‑site.
