Offer Description
BRIEF:
Under the guidance of the Head of Digital Systems Center, the successful candidate will actively contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the Centre.
Teaching Missions and responsibilities:
Digital Systems Center is involved in all of the teaching programs of the school. In particular, the CERI is in charge of two teaching areas (Industry and Services, and Digital Sciences and Technologies) in the general engineering training program and a continuous training program in Telecommunications and Computer Science. Digital Systems Center also offers a Master’s degree in Cyber Security. Finally, the CERI also has teaching activities in professional training.
The successful candidate will provide instruction (lectures, tutorials, and practical lab work) within the school’s programs, aligned with his/her area of expertise. The lecturer will specifically contribute to specialty courses at the Master’s level, with a particular focus on signal processing applied to telecommunications. Some courses may be taught in English.
Research and technology-transfer Missions:
The digital Center is structured in 3 research groups.
- ARTS (Autonomous, ResilienT Systems) group aims at making distributed and constrained systems resilient and autonomous. A global vision is adopted, integrating data collection (and its communication problems), software development (and its adaptation to systems), prediction, control and security.
- HIDE (Human, Interaction, DEcision) group studies human-centred learning models and the interaction between humans and their environment. It is concerned with augmented environments (Smart Factory, intelligent transport system, ...), assistance and management of elder’s autonomy (technology enabled care, abnormal human behavior), as well as security of human-related data.
- MCLEOD (Modelling and control of Complex systems in Large Environments requiring Optimized Decisions) group aims at understanding and better controlling complex systems through modeling, decision-making and control based on Control theory and Artificial Intelligence approaches.
The candidate will join the ART research group , contributing to the strengthening of activities related to signal processing and advanced communications for 5G/6G.
The recruited will be expected to:
- Develop high-level research activities on signal processing algorithms and transmission techniques for advanced telecommunications networks, with an emphasis on the Physical Layer (PHY) of 5G/6G systems .
- Work on the following topics: design of optimized waveforms for 5G/6G, ISAC (Integrated Sensing and Communications), wireless communications based on hybrid and/or explainable AI (XAI) , as well as transmission schemes resilient to hardware impairments , ensuring robustness and energy efficiency.
- Actively contribute to ongoing collaborative projects by leveraging their expertise in the priority themes of the ARTS group.
- Publish in leading conferences and journals in the field, and take part in the organization of scientific events.
This position is intended for a candidate holding a PhD in Signal Processing, Telecommunications, or related disciplines, who has developed expertise in the Physical Layer (PHY) of advanced communication systems, with a focus on 5G/6G.
Expected Scientific and Technical Skills:
- Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Design of optimized waveforms for 6G, integrating innovative approaches such as ISAC.
- AI-based wireless communications (hybrid or explainable) for dynamic resource optimization and channel condition adaptation.
- Transmission schemes resilient to hardware imperfections, ensuring robustness and energy efficiency in 5G/6G systems.
- Proficiency with simulation and modeling tools (MATLAB, Simulink, GNU Radio, Python with dedicated libraries such as PyTorch).
Interpersonal and Professional Skills:
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds (teaching, research, technical support, industrial partners).
- Autonomy, initiative, and the ability to contribute to collective projects (teaching, research, innovation).
- Strong skills in scientific communication and outreach.
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written, with strong abilities in expression, negotiation, and academic writing.
This position is in Villeneuve d’Ascq, France. The applicant should keep in mind the possible short travels required to reach the different sites of activities, especially for teaching activities.
