Position Overview
This position is accountable for assisting with the management, review and preparation of plats, excess parcel plats, legal descriptions and related documents required for the acquisition and disposal of right-of-way for proposed highway construction that is both highly urbanized and rural in nature.
Essential Functions
- Ensures that all pertinent data has been researched, reviewed, and accurately documented.
- Prepares, documents, and distributes project information packets.
- Ensures that all required plats, plans, and legal descriptions are completed according to assigned time frames.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules and fair & equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering, or a job‑related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years of engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a variety of technical activities relating to civil engineering, land surveys, plats and plans preparation, and the required documents for the acquisition of land for projects.
- Ability to read and interpret reports, maps, plans, plats, legal descriptions and title abstracts.
- Working knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying in a relatively narrow range of functions.
- Working knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry and its application to field surveying and engineering computations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, database, and PDF software.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
- Valid driver’s license.
- Occasional travel is required, which may include overnight stays.
- Overtime may be required as needed.
- Successful completion of a background screening.
- Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
