LumiSync is a deeptech spin‑off of CNRS developing the World’s First Photonic Oscillator, a fully photonic on‑chip timing solution designed to replace electronic synchronization chains in next‑generation AI and HPC data centers. Our technology enables sub‑nanosecond synchronization, ultra‑low power operation, and native optical clock generation and distribution, providing a scalable and more efficient alternative to electronic oscillators, retimers, PLLs, and Clock‑Data‑Recovery (CDR) circuits.
We are recruiting a PIC Design & On-Chip Laser Integration Engineer (CDI) to accelerate the development of advanced silicon photonic circuits and laser‑on‑SOI integration for our next‑generation products, enabling higher performance, lower power consumption, and scalable all‑optical architectures.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Main Mission
You will design, simulate, and prototype silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) using existing foundry PDKs, while also developing new custom circuit-level components to push the performance of our photonic oscillator platform beyond standard PDK capabilities.
Your work will focus on SOI circuitry design, C‑band photonic component development and laser‑on‑SOI integration, including coupling optimization, packaging constraints, and co‑design with electronic and system‑level teams.
You will contribute directly to LumiSync’s photonic roadmap by creating new PIC architectures and improving the coupling efficiency between external or integrated lasers and SOI waveguides.
Tasks & Activities
- Design and simulate silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) using existing foundries SOI PDKs (C‑band)
- Develop new custom circuit‑level photonic components to exceed PDK performance limits to enhance mode confinement, dispersion control, coupling efficiency and optical clock routing and distribution
- Integrate Lasers on SOI exploring different integration strategies, improving coupling efficiency and alignment‑tolerance for LumiSync’s photonic oscillator platform
- Contribute to system‑level integration, ensuring PIC designs meet the requirements of high‑speed datacom environments
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- MSc and/or PhD in photonics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, applied physics, or related fields
- 3–8 years experience in silicon photonics, PIC design, laser integration, or SOI‑based photonic components
- Experience with laser/PIC coupling, heterogeneous integration, or hybrid photonic platforms is highly desirable
Technical skills
- Strong experience with SOI photonic design in the C‑band using foundry PDKs (standard building blocks, design rules, mask preparation)
- Ability to extend PDK capabilities by designing custom circuit‑level components (waveguides, couplers, fan‑out structures, etc.) to achieve performance beyond standard libraries
- Proficiency in PIC simulation tools (Lumerical, FDTD, etc.)
- Experience with on‑chip laser integration and ability to optimize laser/SOI coupling efficiency
- Familiarity with laser control, including current/temperature tuning, wavelength stabilization, modulation interfaces, and co‑design of laser‑driver electronics for integrated photonic systems
- Knowledge of packaging constraints, laser alignment strategies, fiber attach techniques, and thermal management for integrated photonic modules
- Ability to collaborate with system‑level teams (photonics, opto‑electronics, datacom, synchronization) to ensure PIC designs meet performance and integration requirements.
