TAME brings together academic and industry partners across Europe to develop methods to better diagnose and treat tauopathies, including Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia.

Tauopathies are characterized by abnormal tau protein buildup in the brain, leading to the formation of filaments, obstructing nerve synapses and impacting cell viability, ultimately leading to neurodegenerative disorders.

DeepLife will use proprietary data obtained from cell cultures and in vivo models, together with open-access data, to build a digital model of a neuron affected by tau pathology in order to predict novel biomarkers and therapeutic strategies.

The successful candidate will be hired by DeepLife under a 36-month full-time PhD employment contract.

The candidate will spend:

  • 24 months within DeepLife’s R&D team

The PhD will be jointly supervised by DeepLife and Université de Lille. The candidate will also interact regularly with the TAME consortium and benefit from its biological and experimental expertise.

Skills/Qualifications

  • We are looking for a candidate with:
    • A Master's degree or equivalent in biology, molecular/cellular biology, neuroscience, bioinformatics or a related field;
    • Hands-on wet-lab experience, ideally in cellular or molecular biology;
    • Good Python programming skills and the ability to work with biological datasets;
    • Basic knowledge of machine learning, with a strong interest in developing further expertise in computational modelling and generative models;
    • Experience with omics, single-cell or multi-omics data would be an advantage;
    • A strong interest in combining experimental data and computational approaches to develop and validate Digital Twins of neurons affected by tauopathies.
