PhD Researcher – Deep-Based Video Coding

InterDigital R&I Center in Rennes, France is looking for a PhD researcher to work on deep‑based video coding within a research project that focuses on 2D video coding and is deeply involved in standardization (MPEG, VCEG, JVET). The project aims at exploring new coding algorithms based on deep‑learning solutions, focusing on the improvement of inter‑prediction by generating more accurate reference pictures.

Responsibilities:

• Follow the state‑of‑the‑art of published research and standardization in the fields of deep learning and video coding.
• Propose and implement new algorithms for video coding in collaboration with the research team.
• Develop and implement innovative deep‑based video coding algorithms using reference software implementations of the most recent technologies developed by JVET or MPEG.
• Participate in the external promotion of R&I technologies through contributions to standards, peer‑review journals and conferences.
• Demonstrate and promote results in contributions to standards, peer‑review journals and conferences.
• Execute the PhD in two labs: INRIA CompACT (academic side) and InterDigital Video Lab (industrial side).

Qualifications:

• School engineer diploma or master degree in computer science with knowledge and practice in at least one of deep learning, machine learning, signal processing or related fields.
• Interest in computer vision and/or image processing and deep/machine learning.
• Experience in software implementation: C/C++, Windows/Linux, Python, TensorFlow.
• Team spirit, enthusiastic, motivated, and creative attitude.
• Good communication skills and ability to present activities internally and externally.
• Fluent English mandatory; French appreciated.
