Nurse Manager - Atrium Health Freestanding Emergency Departments - Providence and Ballantyne

Overview

Atrium Health Pineville Emergency Department: Providence seeks an experienced Nurse Manager to lead two freestanding emergency department sites located six miles apart in the Ballantyne area of south Charlotte. This role oversees daily operations, clinical quality, staffing, and engagement across both locations to ensure high-quality emergency care.

Responsibilities

  • Continually demonstrates and supports a Professional Practice model that enables nurses to collaborate with interdisciplinary partners to achieve high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Ensure unit operations and staff compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, regulatory standards, and policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate as a team member to achieve unit and organizational goals, upholding quality management, patient care, and departmental standards.
  • Oversee recruitment and retention of qualified staff, including orientation, education, credentialing, and continuing professional development through mutual goal setting and performance evaluation.
  • Delegate effectively by promoting shared governance, developing and nurturing research to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Perform nursing care, assist with treatments, therapies, procedures, and administer medications as necessary.
  • Provide and assess the effectiveness of patient and family education.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance nursing care, patient outcomes, and cost-effective care delivery.
  • Assist in developing policies, procedures, and standards reflective of evidence-based practice.
  • Promote shared accountability for professional practice.
  • Allocate resources to meet unit needs, with budgetary oversight and accountability for maintaining a cost-effective unit.

Site Overview

  • Ballantyne ED : 10 beds, including triage and a trauma/resuscitation room; Supported by 12 RNs and one Clinical Supervisor
  • Providence ED : 12 beds, including triage and a trauma/resuscitation room, plus a 3-bed vertical care area; Supported by 15 RNs, one Paramedic, and one Clinical Supervisor

Combined volume: Approximately 25,000 annual visits across both locations.

Position Details

  • Full time – 40 hours per week
  • Variable shifts
  • Oversee two freestanding ED sites and the ED Float Pool

Pay Range: $51.05 – $76.60 per hour

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • Current RN licensure in the appropriate state.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred; if the undergraduate degree is not BSN, enrollment in an MSN program within 1 year of hire and graduation within 5 years is required. If the undergraduate degree is BSN, a master’s degree in a health-related field or MBA is acceptable.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines.
  • Appropriate professional certification (clinical or leadership) required within 1 year of eligibility for the certification exam.

Physical Requirements

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds. Must speak and understand English fluently. Adequate vision, hearing, and tactile senses. Good finger dexterity and critical thinking. Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient and unit conditions.
