Role Overview

The Nuclear Security Systems Engineer will provide regular in‑person oversight and support for the Nuclear Cyber and Nuclear Physical Security Systems supplier based in Carrollton, Texas. The engineer reports to the Nuclear Cyber and Physical Security Systems Design Manager as part of the Natrium Plant Delivery department, coordinating cross‑functional and multi‑disciplinary design activities. The position involves working in Carrollton and occasionally traveling to TerraPower’s Bellevue, WA office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide continuous vendor oversight of Nuclear Security design scope for the Natrium plant.
  • Act as a direct conduit of communication to facilitate continued progression of design activities.
  • Travel to TerraPower's Bellevue, WA office to meet with Natrium managers and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate good communication between TerraPower and partner stakeholders and managers.
  • Resolve/clarify scope and schedule issues and coordinate with the TerraPower plant design oversight team.
  • Align security vendor and TerraPower on technical issues, Natrium procedures, plant design strategies, and implementation of cyber/physical security plan requirements.
  • Oversee Natrium Security Systems vendor including budgeting, staffing, planning, and monitoring design development progress.
  • Review Security System design work documents covering design, integration, and implementation of software work products and other system design documents for the Natrium nuclear plant.
  • Identify critical high‑risk areas and initiate proactive measures to prevent potential project delay.
  • Provide weekly summary reports to senior management about critical task progress, potential delays, challenges, and resource needs.
  • Interface with and manage subcontractors, vendors, and partners.

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 12 years of design/project management experience on large utility‑grade nuclear projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven leadership experience.
  • Experience in Physical or Cyber Security design development, I&C security maintenance, or integration.
  • Familiarity with Nuclear Cyber and Physical Security standards (10CFR73.54, 10CFR73.55, NEI 08‑09, NEI 13‑10, NEI 03‑01, NEI 11‑08).
  • Experience configuring and managing SIEM appliances.
  • Experience with database structures for installing and integrating security systems.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to solve challenging problems and provide timely recommendations.
  • Strong trustworthiness, integrity, and teamwork orientation.
  • Ability to travel frequently to vendor locations outside of Idaho and occasionally to Bellevue, WA.
  • Familiarity with defensive architecture and nuclear security system design requirements.
  • Broad-based technical and engineering skills for designing, installing, or maintaining nuclear security systems.
  • Experience as a design engineer in a nuclear quality environment (10 CFR 50, Appendix B).

Job Functions

Physical actions and working conditions associated with this position include sitting for extended periods, bending/stooping, fine motor control, minimal physical exertion (safe lifting up to 25 pounds), repetitive work, visual and audio focused work, and standard office environment. Travel required: 0‑10 %.

Salary Range

USD 122,043 – 183,064 (Texas). Salary is based on market data and candidate qualifications.
