NGS Specialist
About Biomemory
Biomemory is a worldwide pioneer in the DNA Data Storage market. We are a well‑funded start‑up building IT rackable equipment for data centres, using synthetic DNA as the storage media. While this technology is still at its infancy, these DNA Data Storage Servers target the storage of massive amounts of data (exabytes) with a very long retention lifetime (> 100 years) within an attractive capex and opex budget. Headquartered in Paris, Biomemory serves the fast‑growing international cold‑storage market. Founded in 2021, the company stands at the crossroads of biotechnology and computing, driven by a passion for sustainability. After securing a €17 M Series A in early 2025, Biomemory is entering a high‑growth phase, aiming to more than double its team from 25 to 50 by the beginning of 2026. Join us in rewriting the future of data storage.
About the job
As an NGS Scientist, you will contribute to all aspects of post‑writing steps until post‑DNA reading sequencing. You will design, validate, and scale end‑to‑end sequencing workflows, from experimental design and wet‑lab execution to robust, production‑grade data‑analysis pipelines, and set scientific standards & drive technical decisions.
Main Responsibilities
- Own the end‑to‑end NGS workflows, from biological question to actionable data.
- Define sequencing strategies, by proposing and implementing new technologies in DNA sequencing.
- Design and optimize downstream data analysis to meet R&D team requirements.
- Set acceptance criteria, controls, and quality thresholds for sequencing‑based validation.
Sequencing Data Analysis & Pipeline Development
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable NGS data‑analysis pipelines.
- Implement pipelines covering base‑quality filtering, alignment / assembly, variant detection and error profiling, coverage / bias / contamination analysis, and custom metrics tailored to experimental needs.
- Ensure pipelines are reproducible, version‑controlled, well‑documented, and meet scientific rigor, QC and standardisation.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers to ensure robustness, performance and maintainability.
Technical Mentorship
- Act as a technical reference for NGS, sequencing analysis, and molecular biology.
- Provide guidance as a right‑hand person to the director of biotechnology and mentor engineers and technicians on experimental design, sequencing interpretation, data‑analysis best practices.
- Contribute to hiring, technical interviews and skill assessment.
- Drive technical roadmap discussions related to sequencing and data‑reading workflow.
Cross‑functional & Strategic Contribution
- Work closely with the molecular biology team, automation and process engineering, and software and hardware teams.
- Translate R&D needs into scalable, industrialisable solutions.
- Provide scientific input to strategic decisions, platform evolution and technology choices.
