Multimedia System Standards Engineer

Overview

The Multimedia System Standards team at InterDigital Video Lab seeks a Multimedia System Standards Engineer to support global standardization activities for multimedia streaming, encoding, and delivery technologies. This role contributes to international standards such as MPEG, SVTA, DBV, and 3GPP SA4 and develops system solutions for emerging media applications.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate and contribute to MPEG, SVTA, DBV, or 3GPP SA4 standardization activities, including high-level syntax for codecs (2D, immersive, AI‑based), file formats, carriage, real‑time, and streaming protocols.
• Research system technologies and solutions for multimedia‑centric processing, storage, and delivery applications.
• Document and present innovative media streaming technologies and implementations through standards contributions, conference and journal publications, technical white papers, and patent applications.
• Develop system solutions to support emerging applications such as machine‑learning compressed media, AI/ML or XR services, focusing on optimized multimedia experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Strong research background in media streaming, storage, delivery, and high‑level syntax for codecs.
• 5+ years of experience with multimedia system standards such as ISOBMFF file format, RTP payload, MPEG‑DASH, and OMAF.
• Experience as a standards delegate to MPEG, JVET, DVB, or 3GPP is a plus.
• Self‑reliant with a technical mindset and strong analytical and research skills.
• Proficiency in C++ and C programming.
• Proven track record of publications in first‑tier conferences and/or journals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong team player.
• Available and willing to travel.
• Fluent in English; willingness to learn French if not a native speaker.
