Mobile Support Team Gardener F/M
We are looking for a Mobile Support Team Gardener F/M to join our teams at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) which honours the 1.7 million men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring they will never be forgotten. Our work commemorates the war dead, from building and maintaining our cemeteries and memorials at 23,000 locations in more than 150 countries to preserving our extensive records and archives. Our values and aims, laid out in 1917, are as relevant now as they were 100 years ago.

Working hours: 35 hours per week. 4‑day week trial in 2026 for the period from March to October (paid for 35 hours)
Job description
Provides support to horticultural teams performing exceptional tasks or techniques (horticultural work; masonry; operating machinery). Backfills in various horticultural teams on an ad hoc basis as directed by the respective team leader within France Area.
Key responsibilities
- Works as a Gardener, providing additional support in the different teams across FA as and when required and often at short notice (travel up to Marseille; in Corsica and Spain)
- Is actively involved in horticulture projects and renovation tasks requiring larger machines, at the different sites across FA, e.g. irrigation, hedges, drainage, etc.
- Performs masonry work (laying kerbs)
- Installs fences; access paths; headstones; signs
- When operational needs dictate, works within an existing team as a Gardener
- Assumes the role of driver‑delivery person, as required. Delivers equipment by lorry and/or van to various groups in France, as required.
- Operates mini‑excavators and loaders, if in possession of the relevant CACES certification
- Assists the Mechanics to maintain and repair different machinery and at different sites, as required
- Works on horticultural tasks at different sites across FA that require larger machines, such as Verti draining, scarifying and over seeding
Profile required
- Diploma or qualification in horticulture or significant experience in the field of horticulture and masonry
- Valid B licence
- Van with trailer licence (BE licence)
- C licence would be an advantage
- CACES 1 certification required

- Good listening and communication skills

- Ability to work in different locations, often at short notice
