As an R&D Microbiology Engineer , you will play a key role in designing, executing, and scaling microbiology experiments that underpin the company’s core technology.
You will work cross-functionally with teams spanning data science, hardware, and product to translate experimental insights into robust, deployable solutions for industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Experimental Design & Scientific Strategy
- Design and lead microbiology experiments aligned with product and platform development
- Define methodologies, set scientific direction, and ensure alignment with broader company objectives
- Analyse experimental data and translate findings into actionable insights
- Convert lab results into scalable, standardised protocols for industrial deployment
- Collaborate closely with data science and hardware teams to integrate biological insights into the platform
Project Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead R&D initiatives across multidisciplinary teams (biology, hardware, software, ML)
- Coordinate stakeholders and ensure delivery against ambitious timelines
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members
Quality, Compliance & Lab Excellence
- Implement scalable lab practices balancing scientific rigor with operational speed
- Ensure traceability, biosafety, and compliance standards are met
- Continuously improve processes, tools, and documentation to support growth
Profile
- PhD or Master’s degree in microbiology, biotechnology, or a related field
- 3+ years of hands-on R&D experience in an industrial or applied research environment
- Strong expertise in bacterial culture techniques, microbiological assays, and contamination monitoring
- Experience in food, pharma, or industrial biotech environments is highly advantageous
- Proven ability to lead scientific projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong analytical skills; experience with data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, Python, or R) is a plus
- Familiarity with LIMS and digital lab systems is beneficial
- Excellent communication skills in French and English
- Proactive, autonomous, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced startup environment
