The European Medical Director will provide medical guidance and leadership across European medical affairs activities consisting of KOL engagement, evidence generation (clinical utility, real-world data, investigator-initiated trials, country registries or protocols), data analysis and interpretation, scientific publications, medical education, guideline development, and supporting market access and reimbursement strategies.

The European Medical Director will be responsible for defining and executing the European medical strategy and setting annual goals aligned with and the Global Medical Strategy.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), payers, guideline committees, and advocacy groups, aligned with development objectives.
  • Develop and execute educational strategies for clinicians with cross-functional partners aligned with Global Medical strategy
  • Partner with the commercial and market access teams to define and execute the European strategy to support broad adoption and reimbursement.
  • Define and execute a European evidence generation strategy, including RWE, to support clinical, commercial, and reimbursement goals.
  • Liaison to professional organizations and disease state advocacy groups
  • Participate in the construction of business cases to support expansion of the European footprint (e.g. new countries, new therapeutic indications), by collecting insights from KOLs, scientific groups, and key stakeholders, and by analyzing scientific, clinical, and market access drivers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively internally and externally.
  • Maintain, continually develop and communicate scientific knowledge of the relevant competitive landscape.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the European MSL team, fostering scientific excellence, compliance, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Establish measurable objectives (KPIs) for medical affairs activities, including KOL engagement, evidence-generation progress, and access milestones, and ensure regular reporting to Global Medical and Europe Commercial Teams.
  • All other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • Bachelors + 15 years of related experience, Masters + 12 years of related experience, or PhD + 8 years of related experience in Medical Affairs in the life sciences industry
  • Terminal Degree (PhD, PharmD) preferred.
  • 4+ years Medical Affairs leadership experience (Medical Director/Liaison) in biopharma, diagnostics, or biotech or medical experience
  • Knowledge in hematology, oncology, and specifically multiple myeloma, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in: KOL relationship development, knowledge of institutional relationships, experience with health technology assessment (HTA) and payer interactions, management of field staff.
  • Languages: Verbal and written fluency in English is required. Other European languages are a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across functions and roles, with professional presentation abilities and experience.
  • Professional Certification: Not required but board certification in hematology/oncology is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • This is a Europe-based role with regular travel 25–50% to key European markets, headquarters (US), and international scientific meetings.
