Role Summary

This strategic hire is driven by ongoing projects and a key need to strengthen the engineering team with a skilled Mechanical & Thermal Architect. The role offers an exceptional opportunity to be at the forefront of satellite architecture development, playing a vital part in mission‑critical initiatives that shape the future of space exploration and satellite technology. You'll have the chance to influence comprehensive design processes and work on high‑profile, technically challenging projects that have significant industry impact.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Lead the conceptual and detailed design of the satellite's mechanical and thermal systems, ensuring alignment with project requirements from inception through detailed justification phases.
  • Act as the technical authority for mechanical and thermal testing, overseeing vacuum and environmental tests to validate satellite robustness and operational reliability.
  • Collaborate during flight operations, supporting launch and in-orbit phases with thermal management and system monitoring.
  • Optimise satellite layout, balancing internal arrangement and external modularity for seamless integration and efficient assembly.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external suppliers to manage subcontractors responsible for critical components like structures, thermal insulation, and heating systems.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for client interfaces and space agencies, ensuring all satellite and launcher integration activities meet regulatory and technical standards.
  • Contribute to project reviews, technical documentation, and reporting, maintaining clear communication across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Drive innovation by contributing to the development of technical documentation and proposing advanced solutions in pre‑sales activities.
  • Minimum of 5 years' practical experience in mechanical and thermal architecture within the space sector.
  • Proven track record in designing and developing complete M&T systems for satellites, from early phases through in‑orbit acceptance testing.
  • Strong ability to perform technical trade‑offs, manage activity planning, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills; capable of producing technical documentation in both English and French and engaging with diverse stakeholders including clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Experience with thermal vacuum testing and environmental qualification procedures.
  • Background in mass layout optimisation and integration processes.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystem development standards and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and contribute to technical proposals or pre‑sales efforts.
