Mechanical GNC Design Engineer (ADCS) - Ingénieur Conception Mécanique GNC (ADCS)
GTS Space is working with a global satellite technology company based in Toulouse, at the heart of Europe’s space ecosystem. They need a Mechanical GNC Design Engineer to design next generation Attitude Determination and Control Systems.
About the Company
Our mission is to develop next-generation spacecraft platforms delivering high-performance, reliable, and efficient solutions for commercial and institutional missions.
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a Mechanical GNC Design Engineer to support the development of advanced attitude control hardware , with a strong focus on reaction wheels (momentum wheels) within satellite Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems.
Role Overview
You will play a key role in the mechanical design, analysis, and validation of reaction wheel assemblies , a critical actuator within the Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) . These systems enable precise satellite orientation control without propellant, directly impacting mission performance and reliability.
You will work at the intersection of mechanical engineering, dynamics, and GNC , collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams across systems, electronics, and software.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop reaction wheel / momentum wheel assemblies for satellite platforms
- Perform mechanical design, structural analysis, and thermal assessments of rotating machinery
- Analyse rotordynamics, imbalance, vibration, and bearing performance
- Support GNC integration , ensuring actuator performance meets pointing and stability requirements
- Define and manage requirements, interfaces, and verification plans for ADCS hardware
- Lead or support environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock)
- Conduct failure analysis and reliability assessments for long-duration space missions
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams for precision components and assemblies
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree (MSc/PhD preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- Proven experience in satellite GNC / ADCS hardware development
- Strong hands‑on experience with reaction wheels / momentum wheels / flywheel systems
- Solid understanding of:
- Rotating machinery and rotordynamics
- Precision mechanical design and tolerancing
- Vibration and dynamic analysis
- Experience working within space industry standards (ECSS or equivalent)
- Familiarity with system‑level GNC requirements and spacecraft dynamics
- Experience with magnetic bearings or high‑speed electric motors
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and multibody simulation tools
- Background in cleanroom assembly and space qualification processes
- Understanding of momentum management and desaturation strategies
What We Offer
- Opportunity to work on cutting‑edge space missions and technologies
- Collaborative environment within Toulouse’s leading aerospace hub
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Career development in a rapidly growing satellite company
