Who we are

The food industry solved a problem that defined most of human history: calories are cheap, and hunger has collapsed. But making food affordable also made it worse. Eating real food every day is now a luxury most people can’t afford. We're building Eridale to make great food more accessible. AI and robotics let us run restaurants at a fraction of the cost of a traditional chain, and those savings let us serve better ingredients at a lower price. The people who do well here take full ownership of their work, care deeply about craft, and operate at every level of detail. They're here to do the best work of their career. If that's not you, this won't be fun.

The role

You’re an experienced mechanical engineer (5+ years) who has shipped real machines with moving parts — not just prototypes. You’ll own mechanical design end-to-end, from first concept through production ramp, and work closely with electrical, electronics, and software to make the full system reliable, serviceable, and cost-effective.

We don’t care about degrees. We care about what you’ve built and shipped. A portfolio is highly encouraged (photos, CAD screenshots, test data, videos, writeups — anything that shows the work).

What you get to do

Design & build complex mechanisms

  • Own mechanical architecture for robotic restaurant equipment (motion systems, structures, enclosures, mounts, interfaces)
  • Take concepts from sketch to CAD, prototype, iterate, and validate with test plans and data
  • Design for reliability, serviceability, safety, and cleanliness in a food environment

Ship to production (and keep improving)

  • Drive DFM/DFA with suppliers; create drawings, tolerances, GD&T, and release packages
  • Support builds, debug issues, run root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
  • Help scale machines that reach meaningful production volume (hundreds of units)

Work across the whole stack

  • Partner daily with electrical/electronics/software so mechanical decisions support sensors, wiring, compute, and controls
  • Anticipate system integration issues (EMI, heat, cabling, routing, access, calibration) before they become problems

Cost, quality, and vendor ownership

  • Build and manage BOMs; optimize cost without sacrificing performance
  • Own supplier communication, RFQs, and tradeoffs (lead time, quality, cost, risk)

Who we are looking for

Must-haves (deal-breakers):

  • 5+ years experience as a mechanical engineer shipping complex machines with moving parts
  • Proven track record delivering hardware from concept to production (not only one‑off prototypes)
  • Strong CAD skills and the ability to produce clear drawings, tolerances, and release packages
  • Systems mindset: you understand how mechanical, electrical/electronics, and software constraints shape the design
  • Clear written and verbal communication; you can align a small team quickly and drive decisions
  • Strong English (written and spoken) is required

Strong signals we value:

  • You’ve worked on machines that reached real production volume (hundreds of units)
  • Experience in food‑industry equipment (sanitation constraints, reliability, service, safety)
  • Experience with injection‑molded parts (design, tooling tradeoffs, shrink/warp, tolerance stackups)
  • Experience doing cost optimization / value engineering on production hardware

Who you are:

  • You think in systems, not tasks
  • You're energized by constraints, not paralyzed by them
  • You earn trust fast — with founders, with vendors, with a small team
  • You are the person who fixes things before anyone else notices they're broken
