Key Responsibilities Of The Role
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations, quality standards, and data centre specific requirements.
- Champion the Mercury QA/QC cycle, ensuring Mercury standards are engrained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead and manage all mechanical construction activities (HVAC, chilled water systems, piping, plant rooms, etc.) across large‑scale data centre projects.
- Oversee end‑to‑end project execution, from design coordination through installation, testing and commissioning.
- Manage and coordinate mechanical design consultants, subcontractors, and specialist vendors.
- Review design documentation and provide technical input, constructability reviews, and cost‑effective engineering solutions.
- Plan and control mechanical resources, including labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor packages.
- Drive the site‑based mechanical delivery program, ensuring works are executed in line with project schedules and milestones.
- Lead large multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects in accordance with strict data centre timelines and operational requirements.
- Monitor and report on mechanical construction progress, risks and performance metrics.
- Manage mechanical commissioning activities, including integrated systems testing (IST) and handover processes.
- Support commercial teams to maintain project cost control and profitability.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, civil/structural/architectural and client teams to ensure coordinated delivery of mission‑critical systems.
Essential Criteria
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design, installation and commissioning, particularly within mission‑critical or data centre environments.
- Proven ability to lead and manage large site teams, subcontractors and complex construction programmes.
- Relevant trade background or a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience delivering large‑scale industrial, pharma or data centre projects.
- Minimum 4–5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Construction Manager on complex builds.
- Excellent stakeholder management, leadership and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of health & safety, QA/QC processes and commissioning protocols.
- Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines and high‑pressure project environments.
- Track record of successfully driving projects to on‑time and on‑budget completion.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working on hyperscale or enterprise data centre projects.
- Familiarity with BMS, HVAC controls and critical cooling infrastructure.
- Proficiency in project planning tools (MS Project, Primavera P6) and MS Office.
- Knowledge of commissioning standards such as ASHRAE, CIBSE or equivalent.
