Mask CAD Engineer

Position overview

As a Mask CAD Engineer, you will own the entire mask data preparation (GDS) and layout release process for our SHIP technology.

You will build and maintain scalable mask preparation flows, ensure data integrity, automate processes, and drive successful tape-outs to our foundries.

You will work closely with device designers, simulation engineers, and process teams to translate our designs into manufacturable mask layouts compliant with foundry PDK rules.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and validate GDS/OASIS data, including large-scale PIC layouts.
• Collect, validate, and integrate GDSII contributions from various internal or external design sources.
• Perform hierarchical assembly, cell merging, and top-level integration following established naming, layer, and hierarchy rules.
• Execute mask rule checks and Design Rule Check (DRC, XOR).
• Interface directly with foundries and mask shops to deliver clean mask sets.
• Develop and maintain mask data preparation flows tailored to our SHIPTM technology.
• Automate and optimize workflows using e.g. Python.
• Establish best practices and documentation for future tape-outs.
• Collaborate with component and layout designers to ensure manufacturable photonic structures.
• Collaborate with process engineers and designers to develop internal process control monitoring structures.
• Maintain mask & component (device and PCell) libraries.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Microelectronics, or similar field.
• Experience with GDSII/OASIS layout formats and hierarchical IC design data.
• Practical knowledge of silicon photonics layout concepts.
• Strong hands‑on experience with CAD tools (Klayout or equivalent).
• Proficiency in scripting (Python or equivalent).
• Understanding of photolithography and mask manufacturing processes.
• Proven tape‑out experience, preferably with Silicon Photonics technologies.
• Fluent in English (C1 level or above); French is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mask layout for advanced semiconductor design.
