Marketing & Community Engagement Associate

Foster Nation believes that no one should be held back by the circumstances they were born into. Our mission is to empower foster youth to become self‑sufficient adults through transformative mentorship and critical resources. We believe that one meaningful connection—one spark—can make all the difference, reminding foster youth that they belong, they matter, and they are not alone.

About the Role

As an Marketing & Community Engagement Associate, you serve as an Engagement Officer on the ground in Los Angeles. You bridge the gap between digital storytelling and real‑world connection, using social media to expand our reach, find new partners, donors, and youth, and attending events to ensure those connections catch fire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Social Media Strategy & Growth: Own day‑to‑day operations of Foster Nation’s social accounts, create a monthly content calendar, and build a compelling story around our work.
  • Content Creation: Develop written and digital content—including newsletters, slide decks, and graphics using tools like Figma or Canva—and capture the magic of our work in real‑time for donors and the community.
  • Partnership & Sponsor Activation: Leverage social media, event interactions, and general marketing channels to identify and initiate new collaborative partnerships, qualifying leads for hand‑off to the leadership team.
  • Community Engagement & Event Support: Be present at every Los Angeles event, support the “run of show,” and act as a lead engagement officer to curate spaces that feel authentic and safe for foster youth.
  • Brand Scaling: Document our engagement playbook, identifying what works in LA so the success can be replicated in other communities as we grow.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in marketing, social media management, and community organizing.
  • Deep commitment to treating everyone with dignity and empowering foster youth to live their best lives.
  • Storytelling Skills: Ability to use video and text to evoke emotion; comfortable both behind and in front of the camera.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with Canva, Figma, Constant Contact (or similar email marketing platforms), and social media analytics; ability to build professional decks and communications. Video editing for both short and long form content is required.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: Curious, intentional, and ready to take initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Logistics: Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout LA County for all in‑person program events.

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Salary Range: $65,000–$70,000 (salaried, exempt) with eligibility for a performance bonus.
  • Health Benefits: Dedicated insurance stipend designed to cover the cost of an average health insurance plan.
  • Paid Time Off: 30 total days of PTO annually (14 paid holidays, 10 PTO days, and 6 sick days).

Work Setting: Hybrid role based in Los Angeles County, requiring in‑person participation 3–4 times per month for program events and team workdays. This full‑time role offers flexibility and occasional weekend/after‑hours events.
