Manager - Product Management, Community of Practice
Ally and Your Career Ally Financial only succeeds when its people do - and that's more than some cliché people put on job postings. We love this stuff! We see our people as, well, people - with interests, families, friends, dreams, and causes that are all important to them. Our focus is on the health and safety of our teammates as well as work-life balance and diversity and inclusion. From generous benefits to a variety of employee resource groups, we strive to build paths that encourage employees to stretch themselves professionally. We want to help you grow, develop, and learn new things. You're constantly evolving, so shouldn't your opportunities be, too?
Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. Your hiring manager will discuss this role's specific work requirements with you during the hiring process. All work requirements are subject to change at any time based on leader discretion and/or business need.
The Opportunity
Ally is building a Product Management Community of Practice to raise the bar on how product management is performed across the enterprise. This leadership role leads that effort - setting the standards, building the community, and driving consistent, high-quality product practice across 100+ PMs spanning every line of business. This is not a support function. It carries real organizational authority: over how the PM role is defined, how PMs are hired and leveled, and which frameworks and processes the enterprise adopts. The right person has deep product management experience, strong convictions about what great looks like, and the credibility and influence to move a large, complex organization.
The Work Itself
- Define and maintain enterprise-wide PM role standards, including role levels, competency expectations, and performance criteria
- Hold meaningful input into PM hiring and leveling decisions across business lines to ensure consistency and quality
- Mandate and drive adoption of shared product frameworks, tools, and processes across the PM community
- Design and deliver a structured training and development curriculum for PMs at all levels
- Build and run the Community of Practice — recurring forums, knowledge sharing, peer learning, and cross-LOB collaboration
- Identify capability gaps across the PM population and develop targeted programs to close them
- Serve as the internal authority and advocate for product management as a discipline
- Track record of setting standards others adopt, not just recommending them
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
High school Diploma or GED equivalent
The Qualifications We're Looking For
- 7+ years of product management experience, with demonstrated progression in scope and seniority
- Background in financial services required; banking experience strongly preferred
- Business focused Product Management background, experience defining and delivering customer and business outcomes, not technical delivery management
- Proven ability to influence and drive alignment across large, matrixed organizations
- Experience building or leading a PM practice, CoP, or center of excellence preferred
- Strong executive presence and communication skills - comfortable presenting to and challenging senior leadership
- Track record of setting standards others adopt, not just recommending them
