Manager I, Engineering - APM Backend
APM Data Hub is at the core of APM, one of the product pillars of Datadog. Our team is responsible for the backend pipeline that processes, transforms, and routes tracing data at scale after ingestion. Our mission is to extend the pipeline's capabilities so that multiple products across Datadog can leverage the rich data present in traces — serving not only APM Distributed Tracing but a growing number of product teams that depend on this data.
As an Engineering Manager for APM Data Hub, you'll lead a distributed team of 6 engineers with diverse seniority, shaping the technical vision of a platform that sits at a critical intersection of Datadog's product ecosystem. You'll own the roadmap for how tracing data is processed and exposed to multiple consumers, maintain high engineering standards for a system operating reliably at scale, and facilitate cross-functional collaboration with the product teams building on top of your pipeline. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to solving complex engineering challenges with a transversal impact on multiple products.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage a team of 6 engineers responsible for a pipeline powering critical features of Datadog platform
- Provide technical leadership by identifying, addressing, and removing roadblocks to maintain team velocity and code quality.
- Collaborate closely with the Product teams to enhance our APM experience and with Platform teams to support our evolutions
- Lead strategic, multi-quarter initiatives, navigating ambiguity to establish clear goals and execution paths.
- Foster professional growth and career advancement for team members, including performance reviews and promotions.
- Participate and lead by example in the team's 24/7 on-call rotation to maintain service reliability.
Who You Are:
- Proven experience (1+ years) leading a team of 4+ engineers with an emphasis on customer-driven improvements.
- Skilled collaborator, able to effectively coordinate efforts across multiple teams and functions.
- Demonstrated technical judgment and ability to guide technical decisions across back-end distributed systems
- Passionate about mentoring and growing engineers, actively developing the next generation of technical leaders.
