Maintenance & Connectivity Airworthiness Engineer (M/F)

Overview

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is seeking a Maintenance & Connectivity Airworthiness Engineer (M/F) to join the Electrics & Avionics Certification department, based in Toulouse, France. The role leads certification activities for Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA), Aircraft Data Communication Network (ADCN), Centralized Maintenance Systems (CMS) and Connectivity systems and functions. The successful candidate ensures airworthiness approvals for complex changes and projects from relevant authorities (e.g., EASA, FAA) and contributes to shaping the future regulatory environment through rulemaking activities and certification frameworks for forthcoming programs and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the overall certification strategy and plans for complex changes or projects in alignment with business objectives.
• Serve as the primary point of contact with aviation authorities (EASA, FAA, etc.). Prepare for and lead technical meetings, audits, and formal reviews to demonstrate compliance.
• Ensure systems and equipment adhere to applicable airworthiness requirements (e.g., CS25) and industry standards (e.g., DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, ARP4754, ARP4761) and specific certification requirements (Certification Review Items, Issue Papers).
• Oversee creation, review, and approval of certification documentation, including plans, compliance checklists, test reports, and analyses.
• Coordinate cross-functionally with systems design, software/hardware development, safety, security, quality assurance, configuration management, and programs to integrate certification throughout the development lifecycle.
• Identify certification risks, develop mitigation plans, and manage issues affecting schedule or compliance.
• Lead process improvements to enhance certification efficiency, safety, and compliance.
• Monitor and influence rulemaking activities for upcoming global aviation regulations and emerging technologies (e.g., Skywise, 5G, Future Maintenance). Develop strategies for forward compatibility and certification readiness for Airbus products.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8–10 years of experience in the aviation industry with significant experience in systems design, development, integration or safety, ideally for IMA, ADCN, CMS or Connectivity systems or functions.
• Experience in certification or airworthiness is a strong asset, but candidates with strong systems development or safety experience are welcome.
• Strong knowledge of key industry standards: ARP4754, ARP4761, DO-178, DO-254, and in-depth understanding of certification processes.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills in English and French.
• Ability to negotiate and build relationships with regulatory authorities and internal stakeholders; analytical, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
