About the role
In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for establishing the foundational framework for our financial workspace's first line of defense. Your primary focus will be on ensuring that operational risks are effectively managed by the teams directly accountable for them. What you'll do
- Design and implement a uniform control plan that clearly outlines objectives, accountability, and remediation strategies across all departments within the organization.
- Oversee the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) cycle to ensure the risk map for the first line of defense is consistently updated and accurate.
- Develop and execute a Target Operating Model that clarifies how different teams engage with risk processes and the pathways for escalation.
- Collect and analyze data related to control performance, and present your findings to the Risk Committee for review and action.
- Act as the main liaison for Internal Control, ensuring that business teams uphold their independence while managing risks effectively.
- Facilitate training sessions and workshops to educate teams on risk management practices and the importance of compliance.
- Collaborate with various departments to identify potential risks and recommend appropriate control measures.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure that our risk management practices remain compliant and effective.
Requirements
- Proven experience in operational risk management or internal control within a regulated setting, ideally spanning at least 3 years.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement risk frameworks from the ground up, showcasing your strategic thinking and initiative.
- Strong skills in managing relationships with stakeholders across different business units, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Excellent analytical abilities to produce comprehensive reports and governance documentation that inform decision-making.
- A solid understanding of the differences between first-line and second-line risk responsibilities, ensuring clarity in roles and expectations.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices in operational risk management.
Nice to have
- Experience with financial services or fintech environments, providing insight into industry-specific challenges and solutions.
- Knowledge of advanced data analysis tools or software that can enhance reporting and risk assessment processes.
- Certification in risk management or internal control frameworks, such as ISO 31000 or COSO, which would be advantageous.
