Legal Counsel

Summary

Octave seeks a commercially minded, confident, and engaging Legal Counsel to join our fast‑paced international software business, supporting a growing region across EMEA. This highly visible role will act as a trusted advisor and business partner—particularly to Sales—working at the heart of complex, cross‑border deal‑making. The role focuses on negotiating high‑value technology contracts including public tenders, SaaS agreements, and strategic partnerships, while ensuring strong IP protection and practical risk management. The applicant must be a native French speaker with excellent English and thrive in a collaborative, high‑energy environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Regional Contracts to draft, revise, and negotiate software licence agreements, SaaS agreements, sale agreements, services and maintenance agreements, framework agreements, reseller/partnership/distribution agreements, sub‑contractor agreements, non‑disclosure agreements and other related agreements.
• Review and advise on tender documents, project proposals, and statements of work; advise project teams on contract interpretation and dispute resolution.
• Participate in public tenders and maintain knowledge of public contracting in the EU.
• Provide expertise in IP and IT legal matters.
• Update standard terms and conditions, templates and maintain document management systems.
• Support the Director of Regional Contracts in developing and implementing legal and compliance training for stakeholders.
• Ensure customer contracts comply with corporate policies and maintain acceptable risk standards.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, vendors, and service providers to expedite contract negotiations.
• Stay up to date with legal and industry developments.
• Coordinate with external counsel on corporate, employment, and property matters for regional entities.
• Engage in cross‑border transactions.
• Maintain and renew company insurance.
• Provide counsel to sales and management.
• Draft lease agreements and other documents for each office in the region.

Qualifications

• Qualified jurist/attorney specialising in commercial law (preferably under the laws of France) with 8‑10 years post‑qualification experience; other experience levels considered.
• Strong in‑house commercial experience within the technology industry.
• Strong written and oral communication in English and French; other languages are a plus.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting complex regional and global contracts.
• Ability to produce consistently high‑quality work with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent time‑management and administrative skills, with the ability to multi‑task and prioritise.
• Proficient PC skills, including MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders at various levels.
• Capable of working efficiently under pressure.
• Commercial, solution‑oriented, enthusiastic and driven.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Self‑sufficient and proactive with strong business acumen.
