Legal Counsel
As Legal Counsel, you will support the Head of Legal in ensuring the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations, draft and review contracts, manage GDPR and privacy compliance, oversee corporate law events, safeguard intellectual property, and coordinate the legal aspects of international expansion.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Head of Legal to ensure the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations in France and any additional countries where Joko may operate.
- Take any relevant action to prevent the company from litigation and collaborate with the Head of Legal if litigation arises.
- Draft or review contracts for all aspects of Joko’s activity, including employees, freelancers, merchant partners, suppliers, terms and conditions, etc.
- In coordination with the Head of Legal, the DPO and the Product team, elevate GDPR compliance by implementing privacy‑by‑design and improving current processes such as the data treatment register, privacy policy, and IT security routines.
- Ensure thorough oversight of all corporate law events, including BSPCE allocations and exercises, general shareholders’ assemblies, board meetings, and cap‑table management.
- Along with the Head of Legal and external advisors, maintain strong IP management procedures, including follow‑up on domain names, trademarks, and competitive intelligence.
- Support the Head of Legal in coordinating the legal aspects of the company’s international expansion, especially in the United States.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree from a Tier 1 law university with a specialization in private law; passing the bar is a plus.
- At least 2 years of experience as a lawyer, ideally 5, including experience in a top law firm.
- Knowledge and experience in negotiating contracts, GDPR and personal data management, or corporate law, as well as adeptness at preventing and handling legal litigations.
- Fluent in French and English, both written and spoken.
- Excellent analytical and synthesis skills, with the ability to explain complex topics simply; recognised for strong writing abilities.
- Ability to lead a project independently, breaking down complex problems into small tasks and meeting milestones.
- Attention to detail, with a talent for spotting flaws and producing perfect written documents.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, enjoyment of challenges, and a hands‑on approach.
