Legal Counsel

Location

La Défense, France or Madrid, Spain.

What you’ll be doing

• Support Legal France Team members and especially the Senior Legal Counsel in dealing with day-to-day requests for legal advice coming from local Underwriting and Operations teams and from colleagues of the network based abroad interested in pursuing business opportunities France.
• Be the point of contact and work as a true "Business Partner" for several underwriting departments.
• Review and validate various contractual documents (reinsurance contracts, confidentiality agreements, mandates, brokerage protocols, commercial contracts, etc.).
• Propose to underwriters and underwriting assistants solutions that comply with applicable law and are adapted to the needs of AXA XL's clients and partners.
• Manage various projects and deadlines, particularly with regard to the implementation and monitoring of new products.
• Carry out a legal watch, participate in the updating of the legal culture and in the training of the company's underwriters, underwriting assistants, CDLs and claims handlers.
• Provide assistance to AXA XL teams on issues related to multinational programs.
• Provide support, upon request, to AXA XL's international transversal teams.
• Help coordinate activities provided by external counsels.

Reporting

Reporting to the Head of Legal France & Southern Europe.

What you’ll bring

• Master’s degree in French private law, preferably in insurance law.
• Experience in an insurance company, brokerage firm and/or law firm.
• Broad knowledge of insurance law, reinsurance, common contract law and tort law.
• Excellent writing skills, especially in contractual matters.
• Ability to adapt to a fluid work environment with rapidly changing needs and priorities.
• Ability to take initiative, to work independently and to evolve within a multidisciplinary team.
• Curiosity, attention to detail and pedagogy.
• Highly responsive and able to manage workload with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a team and to build strong relationships with others.
• Very good analytical and synthesis skills.
• Fluency in English & French is imperative, both orally and in writing.
