Lecturer in Process Engineering (M/F) - Permanent contract - IMT Mines Alès

Founded in 1843, IMT Mines Alès currently has 1,400 students (including 250 international students) and 380 staff members. The school has three research and teaching centers of high scientific and technological caliber, working in the fields of materials and civil engineering (C2MA), the environment and risk management (CREER), and artificial intelligence and industrial and digital engineering (CERIS). It operates 12 technology platforms and has 1,600 partner companies.
Associated Professor – Role
As an Associate Professor at the Institut Mines‑Télécom, you will be responsible for teaching, research, and technology transfer.
Teaching Activities
- Participate in the engineering school’s teaching activities (general education, apprenticeship, doctoral programs, master’s programs, and specialized master’s programs);
- Join, based on your expertise, the teaching team responsible for thermotechnical courses (50 hours) within the first‑year “Energy” teaching unit, delivered as a cross‑curricular project;
- Manage and participate in the elective course “Energy in Industrialised Societies”;
- Teach in the Department of Environmental, Energy, and Risk Engineering (I2ER);
- Participate in second‑year courses in process engineering;
- Participate in supervising students during educational projects, field assignments, internships, and tutoring students enrolled as full‑time students or employed as apprentices;
- Minimum teaching load: 150 hours/year, with a gradual increase over the first three years.
Research Activities
Conduct research within the CREER centre, the HydroSciences Montpellier (HSM) Joint Research Unit (UMR), or the GARANCe Research Unit (UPR), focusing on environmental issues, risk management, and ecological and industrial transition.
Within the HSM Joint Research Unit (UMR)
- Conduct research on water–environment–health interactions: impacts of climate change, emerging contaminants, energy efficiency, and water reuse.
- Possible research topics across several thematic areas: Development of advanced processes for the removal of emerging contaminants; Design of energy‑efficient and low‑carbon processes; Treatment and reuse of treated wastewater; Treatment of industrial effluents/discharges and deployment of innovative solutions for effluent treatment.
Within the GARANCe UPR
- Conduct research related to industrial and energy transitions and their impacts on regions.
- Possible research areas include: Modeling and simulation of combustion and explosion phenomena; Dispersion and transport of pollutants resulting from industrial accidents; Safety of processes related to the energy transition.
Technology Commercialisation and Transfer Activities
- Contribute to the development and promotion of IMT Mines Alès’s industrial contacts within the economic ecosystem;
- Identify and establish research and innovation contracts with industrial and academic partners, as well as draft funding proposals for public agencies or international programmes;
- Serve as the liaison with the contractual partner, oversee the scientific objectives defined in the project, lead a project team, and monitor the project’s progress and related communications.
- Be able to understand the process of commercially exploiting research results in order to identify opportunities to contribute to cooperation between academic research, industrial research, and the manufacturing sectors.
- Within your scientific and technical area of expertise, carry out initiatives designed to support companies or the school’s incubator in order to foster the creation of spin‑offs and the development of technology‑based companies.
The position requires proven experience in teaching and research in the field of process engineering, particularly in modelling, numerical simulation, and wastewater treatment. The candidate must be fluent in English, able to work as part of a team, develop research projects, and promote their work to academic and industrial partners. International experience is preferred.
Required Degree
Ph.D. in one of the following fields: process engineering, chemical engineering, bioprocesses, environmental sciences, fluid mechanics, energy, thermal engineering, or mass transfer.

The position offered by IMT Mines Alès is a full‑time, permanent position under public law, governed by the management framework of the Institut Mines‑Télécom, at the rank of Associate Professor, occupation C, category II.
