Position Summary
Job Title: Lead, Electrical Engineer – Power Supply DesignJob Code: 36810Location: Salt Lake City, UtahSchedule: 9/80 (employees work 9 out of every 14 days – 80 hours total – with every other Friday off)
L3Harris seeks a lead power‑supply design engineer to contribute to expanding power conversion circuit card design needs. The engineer will design low‑ and high‑voltage, high‑frequency switch‑mode power supplies and collaborate with senior power‑supply engineers and other disciplines to ensure designs meet power, thermal, emissions and safety requirements.
Essential Functions
- Design AC/DC power converters
- Design DC/DC power converters
- Design power distribution architectures
- Design and analyze EMI filters
- Analyze analog/power circuits for stability, efficiency, power draw, in‑rush, etc.
- Write specifications and test approaches for power‑supply circuit designs
- Select components for discrete power converter designs or modules for systems
- Create schematics for analog/power circuits, support printed circuit card design
- Conduct and participate in internal peer design reviews, design verification testing of engineering units and oversight of design into production
- Perform analog and power testing in a laboratory setting for development components and circuit cards
- Work in conjunction with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams for digital, RF, mechanical and systems engineers on overall program/project performance
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience (Power Supply, Electrical Engineering)
- Graduate Degree and minimum 7 years of prior related experience
- In lieu of a degree: minimum 12 years of prior related experience
Preferred Additional Skills
- Experience with power conversion design, power analysis, analog circuit simulation, control loops and stabilization
- Knowledge of high‑frequency magnetics design, development, and manufacturing
- Demonstrated knowledge of AC/DC & DC/DC power converter design, build and test
- Understanding of power analysis with MathCad, Excel or similar tools
- Experience with electrical simulations using SIMPLIS and SPICE modeling tools
- Experience with CAD tools (preferably Mentor Graphics) for schematic entry and layout
- Strong communication skills to coordinate efforts through all phases of engineering and manufacturing
- Ability to work from oral and written instructions, dependable, positive, assertive, team player with a strong desire to succeed
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required, experience with common lab equipment, preferably able to obtain a US DoD security clearance
- Familiarity with MIL‑STD‑704, MIL‑STD‑1275, MIL‑STD‑1399, and MIL‑STD‑461 is a plus
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio; design experience in military or other ruggedized industries
Salary and Benefits
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in selected markets is $125,000–$232,000. This salary range is not a guarantee of compensation; final offer may vary based on experience and geographic location.
