Lead, Fault Tolerant Quantum Computing

Sitting inside the Hardware department, the team you would lead is responsible for the codes and protocols that make fault-tolerant quantum computation possible. Day to day, this covers choosing error-correcting codes suited to the company's specific hardware, engineering logical gates that tolerate faults, building decoders, measuring how well error-correction schemes perform, turning experimental results into logical error models and budgets, and writing and looking after the simulation libraries the team relies on.

Technical Responsibilities

• Own a technical roadmap for the team that stays consistent with the broader hardware strategy.
• Keep the team's software tooling in step with that roadmap and consistent across projects.
• Oversee the technical direction and quality of what the team produces.
• Join up the team's work with that of neighbouring teams and parallel projects.
• Hold a high standard for the scientific and technical documentation the team puts out.
• Engage in technical discussions with outside partners and collaborators.
• Help write and manage grant applications.
• Generate ideas with patent potential and weigh in on internal filings in this area.
• Act as a company representative at conferences and industry events abroad.

Managerial Responsibilities

and track the workload across the team, working alongside project leads.
• Take part in hiring for the team.
• Keep management and stakeholders updated on how work is progressing.
• Mentor team members and help grow their capabilities.

About You

• Five or more years working in quantum error correction. Prior management experience is a plus, though a genuine drive to move into management works too.

Hard Skills

• Deep grounding in quantum information theory and error correction.
• A keen interest in the experimental side of physics.
• Coding ability for simulation and data work (Python or similar).
