Lead Data Scientist

Your role

As a Lead Data Scientist F/M, your primary role will be to be a technical lead by contributing to or supporting the data scientists in your program in carrying out data science projects on behalf of the AXA France Business Units. You will have to proactively participate in the identification of high‑stakes business use cases and carry them out.

Your missions will be as follows

Operational

• Participate in understanding business needs and develop a value proposition by supporting Product Owners (feasibility, prerequisites, timing)
• Guarantee the scientific and code quality of the algorithms developed by the team, from the prototype phase to industrialization and throughout the production run (retrain, drift detection, etc.)
• Structuring projects and code from the start with the perspective of industrialization of the AI solution and smooth integration into the business process: a successful AI is a used AI
• Support and advance data scientists of different seniority levels, via code reviews, peer programming or sharing sessions
• Help organize and guide their work in the right direction, in addition to the Product Owner by questioning the why and seeking a balance between benefit and cost
• Have a responsible AI approach
• Play an active role in the Make or Buy strategy and advise where necessary in the choice of external solutions by challenging them
• Contribute directly to certain projects as a Data Scientist

Transverse

• Participate in the implementation and maintenance of good coding and modeling practices within the team, in an MLOps logic
• Carry out active monitoring of the latest advances in the fields of data science & AI, but also of market players in order to assess their potential interest
• Adopt an advisory posture towards the various AXA departments, in order to support them in the use of data and AI to respond to their issues
• Collaborate with management to structure and plan the team's roadmap as well as project staffing
• Actively contribute to the promotion of the team's work within AXA, via educational presentations or training, for a broad audience as well as experts
• Help the Data department to structure the team's roles, identify each person's specialties in order to collectively build everyone's experience
• Lead training in Data Science and AI - Responsibility for defining certain programs

Your Profile

You come from a university scientific or engineering school background (Bac +5/+8), you have several years of experience as a Lead in the field of data science and machine learning applied in business , with several models put into production.

You master traditional concepts in data analysis, as well as classic machine learning notions and algorithms (classification and regression, clustering, overlearning, regularization, etc.) and deep learning (CNN, RNN, transformers, etc.).

You also have excellent knowledge of Python, and the leading machine learning libraries.

Knowledge of software engineering best practices: version‑control, gitflow, CI/CD, clean‑code, code packaging to support the industrialization of solutions.

You are familiar with public cloud ecosystems (preferably Azure, AWS, GCP).

and ideally

• Have experience with use cases based on structured and unstructured data (document processing, text classification, etc.).
• Have knowledge of PySpark (Spark in Python) and familiarity with Microsoft Azure and associated frameworks (Azure Machine Learning, Azure DevOps, Databricks on Azure).
• Have expertise in stochastic optimization.
