Lead AI Software Engineer

We’re partnered with a fast-growing AI healthtech company building intelligent systems designed to help researchers and healthcare teams. Their platform combines advanced NLP, machine learning, and modern software engineering to power faster, smarter decision-making across life sciences and healthcare.

They’re now looking for a highly hands‑on technical leader to help scale both the platform and the engineering function. This is a role for someone who enjoys operating across the stack – from building production AI systems and scalable infrastructure to shaping engineering standards and mentoring teams through delivery.

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit far away from the code. They want an experienced builder who thrives in fast-moving environments, cares deeply about product quality, and enjoys solving problems across AI, infrastructure, data, and software engineering.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Designing and shipping scalable AI-powered products used in real production environments
• Building and optimising NLP/LLM systems with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and user impact
• Owning engineering best practices across CI/CD, automation, testing, monitoring, quality, and compliance
• Working across backend systems, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, APIs, and modern web applications
• Driving technical direction while remaining deeply hands‑on in architecture and development
• Scaling high‑traffic platforms through rapid iteration, continuous improvement, and close customer feedback loops
• Helping shape and mentor a high‑performing engineering culture without becoming detached from delivery
• Collaborating closely with product and leadership teams to move quickly and build the right things

What They’re Looking For:

• 6+ years of experience across software engineering, AI/ML, or full-stack product development
• Strong hands‑on experience deploying AI/ML systems into production
• Experience leading engineering teams from within – not purely from a management layer
• Proven ability to build scalable engineering processes, tooling, automation, and development workflows
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals with experience across APIs, databases, infrastructure, and cloud platforms
• Comfortable moving across AI/ML, data engineering, infrastructure, and web application development
• A track record of shipping and scaling customer‑facing platforms in fast‑paced environments
• Strong Python engineering experience alongside modern development frameworks and tooling
• Cloud experience across AWS, GCP, or Azure

Bonus Points For:

• Exposure to React, Next.js, or modern frontend frameworks
• Startup or scale‑up experience
• Experience building in regulated or compliance-focused environments
