Junior Software Engineer
The Phagos Data team is looking for a Junior Software Engineer to help empower our internal teams with new tools and platforms. There is an ever-growing list of new ideas, features, and technical challenges inside Phagos, and you will help tackle them with code!
This is a “product-oriented” position where you will be in constant contact with non-technical colleagues (primarily in the Lab) to identify their needs and build solutions: new dashboard websites, data pipelines, and internal databases. You will work on a variety of tasks, from fixing UI bugs to contributing to the design of entirely new projects from scratch.
If you enjoy finding simple code solutions to concrete practical and scientific challenges, this position is for you. We value simplicity above all: being able to make your code clean and understandable for your colleagues is the best skill you can bring.
Main Responsibilities
- Define and implement new features for internal platforms in collaboration with the Lab and Business teams.
- Contribute to the Data department’s technical ecosystem, including better code guidelines and new tooling.
- Ensure the stability, availability, and performance of our internal tools.
- Troubleshoot and fix software issues across our UI and backend systems.
Backend (65%): Python. You should be comfortable handling data tables, building Python packages, and developing API endpoints.
Frontend (35%): JavaScript, including a web framework such as React. You will debug applications and design interactive web pages.
Infrastructure: Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and reproducible environments (e.g., uv).
Cloud & Data: Some experience with AWS (compute/storage) and SQL database systems.
DevOps: Familiarity with Git (GitLab), CI/CD, and software testing techniques.
Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (including Bioinformatics/Biotechnology if it includes a strong emphasis on software engineering).
Experience: This position is open to new graduates with relevant internship or project experience.
AI Mindset: An open and critical mind toward AI-assisted coding. We encourage using AI tools but with a pragmatic, maintainable approach.
Communication: Fluent in English (French is not required). You are comfortable explaining technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
Growth Mindset: You are eager to learn, ask questions, and adapt to the fast-paced environment of a growing startup.
