The Role

As a Junior HPC Network Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will support the design, deployment, and optimization of high‑performance network infrastructures for Mistral’s HPC clusters and AI workloads. This role exists to ensure our networking solutions are reliable, scalable, and tailored to the demands of AI research and production environments. You will work closely with senior engineers to troubleshoot, learn, and contribute to the networking backbone that powers our systems. Your work will directly impact the performance and efficiency of our HPC environments, enabling cutting‑edge AI research.

What You Will Do

• Assist in designing and deploying high‑performance, low‑latency network architectures for HPC environments, including InfiniBand, RoCE, and high‑speed Ethernet.
• Support the integration of networking solutions with compute clusters, storage systems, and cloud platforms.
• Troubleshoot network issues with guidance, following escalation procedures to minimize downtime.
• Monitor network performance, capacity, and security, and assist in implementing improvements.
• Document network configurations, architectures, and operational procedures.
• Stay updated with emerging HPC networking technologies and best practices.
• Learn from senior team members to develop expertise in HPC networking protocols, hardware, and automation tools.

What We’re Looking For

• Basic understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, InfiniBand, RoCE) and network hardware (e.g., switches, routers, NICs).
• Exposure to network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting) or a strong willingness to learn.
• Basic knowledge of HPC environments, parallel computing, or distributed systems.
• Awareness of network security best practices.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix systems, cloud networking, or monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Wireshark).
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills with a willingness to learn.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment with guidance from senior engineers.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
