Offer Description

The Centre d’Études Spatiales de la BIOsphère (CESBIO) is a public research laboratory dedicated toadvancing our understanding of continental surface processes and their interactions with climate andhuman activities. CESBIO scientists make extensive use of remote sensing technologies to monitorenvironmental changes across spatial and temporal scales and to develop models that address keysocietal challenges related to biodiversity, climate change, food security, and water resources. Thelaboratory also plays a central role in the development and promotion of Earth Observation, contributing to the design, implementation, and scientific exploitation of numerous satellite missions.CESBIO is a Unité Mixte de Recherche (Joint Research Unit) bringing together the CNES, CNRS, IRD, andthe University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier and associate to INRAe as a mixt service unit

The objective of this position is to develop methods for producing national-scale land use andirrigated crop maps. The work will focus on the design and implementation of advancedmethodologies combining remote sensing data, artificial intelligence techniques, and agro-meteorological modelling. The candidate will contribute to the development of state-of-the-art AI approaches applied to landsurface monitoring, particularly using satellite observations. These approaches may include machinelearning and deep learning methods for the analysis of multi-source Earth observation data.In addition, the work will involve hybrid approaches integrating remote sensing with agro-meteorological models, in order to improve the detection and characterization of irrigated crops andland use dynamics.A particular emphasis will be placed on the production of in-season maps, enabling the monitoring ofland use and irrigated crops during the agricultural season. This requires the ability to work with timeseries of satellite data and to develop operational methods capable of delivering timely information. The successful candidate is expected to have strong skills in remote sensing, geospatial data analysis, artificial intelligence or machine learning, and environmental or agro-meteorological modelling, aswell as experience handling large Earth observation datasets and developing reproducible scientificworkflows
