We are experiencing exciting growth and seeking a Job Captain to play a pivotal role in our San Francisco studio.

The Job Captain sets up documents for a range of project types from the initial phases. Responsibilities include the architectural and/or interior design drawing tasks, detailing, construction materials, specifications, building codes/approvals processes, and construction observation. The role may involve independent work on small‑scale projects or collaboration within a larger design team on more complex projects.

Key duties also include coordinating the work of major consultants, interpreting their plans and specifications, and interacting directly with clients on both architectural and interior projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the team to advance design into technical documents.
  • Communicate with Project Manager/Project Architect on program, design, budget and schedule to ensure timely and appropriate design development.
  • Collaborate and communicate with designers and other team members.
  • Select methods of drawing and documentation suitable for the project and client type. Prepare presentations and documents under the guidance of a Project Manager.
  • Strategize content and prepare the framework drawing set throughout all project phases, coordinating with the project plan.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager/Project Architect and disseminate the project schedule and budget to the project team.
  • Research and implement building code and municipal requirements.
  • Obtain data, prepare information required by specifications writers, and coordinate preparation of specifications.
  • Provide supervision and initial quality‑control review of the team. Enlist technical leads for full QA/QC reviews.
  • Apply RMW best practices, details, and forms. Prepare and oversee design and construction documents using RMW standard templates, details, and forms.
  • Validate materials, finishes, furniture and building systems that align with project goals, including sustainability and accessibility requirements.
  • Develop solutions integrating building systems, structure, and technology requirements.
  • Coordinate all consultants’ work during design, documentation, and construction administration phases with oversight from the Project Manager/Project Architect.
  • Conduct construction administration with site observations, RFIs and submittals under the oversight of the Project Manager/Project Architect.

Qualifications

  • Professional degree or recognized equivalent.
  • Experience in design, preparing drawings and project documents, and consultant coordination.
  • License and/or credentials encouraged.
  • 7+ years of experience including coordinating technical projects, resources, and project consultants.
  • Commitment to design excellence and document quality.
  • Experience in design development and detailing across a wide variety of project types.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, rendering software, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office Suite.

Salary range $85,000 - $123,000 per year.
