IPVF – Photovoltaic Institute of Île-de-France

The Photovoltaic Institute of Île-de-France, institute for energy transition, is a scientific and technical center dedicated to the research and development of solar technologies . On its site located in Paris-Saclay, it brings together its own staff, employees of its partners and those of external companies. The IPVF aims to ambition to become one of the main global centers for research, innovation and training in the field of energy transition .

The IPVF aims to primary objective of improving the performance and competitiveness of photovoltaic cells and developing disruptive technologies relying on four levers:

  • An ambitious research program
  • The reception, on its Paris-Saclay site, of more than 200 researchers and their laboratories
  • A cutting-edge technological platform (8 m²) open to players in the photovoltaic sector, and bringing together more than 000 cutting-edge equipment located in clean rooms
  • A training program mainly based on a master's degree, supervision of doctoral students, and continuing education

JOB CONTEXT

Within the framework of the IPVF Joint Research Programme on the development of low-cost and high-performance solar cells (PROMETHE), we are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral researcher.

IPVF is an expert in the manufacture of perovskite-based thin-film solar cells and the development of tandem solar cells, as well as in the advanced optoelectronic modeling and characterization of these optoelectronic systems.

In this context, Optimizing transparent contacts and intermediates constitute a major lever for improving the performance of tandem solar cells, by combining efficient photon management, low optical losses and good electrical properties, while relying on processes of low-cost manufacturing .

Benefits

The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment within the IPVF and in close collaboration with members of the CNRS-UMR. They will have access to laboratories within the IPVF and to the institute's extensive collaborative network.

MAIN MISSIONS

The researcher will conduct in-depth optical characterization and simulation work to analyze photon management and optical loss mechanisms in single-junction and tandem solar cells. This research will guide the development and optimization of transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) and intermediate contacts for tandem architectures.

In parallel, he/she will participate in the growth and optimization of the optoelectronic properties of the TCOs and intermediate contacts, as well as in the evaluation of their stability under representative operating conditions.

He/she will also contribute to the development and implementation of low-cost manufacturing processes, including metal grid electrodeposition, bonding techniques, UV lithography, mesa structuring and thin film transfer, for application to tandem devices.

He/she will actively participate in the scientific and technological valorization of the work through publications in international journals, presentations at conferences and, where appropriate, the filing of patents.

Contribution to the IPVF's service offerings and technological solutions

Training and support for users to learn how to use the equipment

Development of synergies and technological bridges with the different themes of the research program (IMPACTS, PROMETHEE, ICARE, EASIER, COMPASS)

REQUIRED PROFILE

Knowledge: materials science, thin film deposition, photonics, optoelectronic modeling and characterization

Experience: use of Matlab and Python, practical experience in a cleanroom, the performance of electrochemical depositions is a plus, synthesis and communication of results
