Position: MBE Specialist and Epitaxial Materials Development Specialist (M/F)
Contract: Defined purpose contract
Duration: 36 months
Education: Doctorate in Materials Science
Ref. IPVF: PR-FG-2-S
IPVF – Photovoltaic Institute of Île-de-France
The Île-de-France Photovoltaic Institute (IPVF), an institute for energy transition, is a scientific and technical hub dedicated to the research and development of solar technologies . Located at its Paris-Saclay site, it brings together its own staff, employees of its partners, and those of external companies. The IPVF aims to become one of the world's leading centers for research, innovation, and training in the field of energy transition .
The IPVF's primary objective is to improve the performance and competitiveness of photovoltaic cells and to develop disruptive technologies by focusing on four key areas:
- An ambitious research program;
- The reception, on its Paris-Saclay site, of more than 200 researchers and their laboratories;
- A cutting-edge technological platform (8 m²) open to players in the photovoltaic sector, and bringing together more than 000 cutting-edge equipment located in clean rooms.
- A training program mainly based on a master's degree, supervision of doctoral students, and continuing education.
JOB CONTEXT
Within the framework of the IPVF Joint Research Programme on the development of low cost and high performance solar cells, we are looking for a research engineer to continue the development of III-V materials, manage MBE equipment, ensure its proper functioning and collaborate with our partners (internal and external) for the development of semiconductor materials or transport layers.
Within the Manufacturing Processes and Product Development team , the candidate will be involved in material growth projects, the development of innovative deposition processes, and the production of reference layers for internal needs. They will also contribute to research projects and build a technological bridge between the various stakeholders in the joint research program to disseminate technological innovations stemming from their research on semiconductor materials and/or transport layers.
What we can offer:
The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment within the IPVF and in collaboration with the Centre for Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies ( C2N - CNRS, and Sunlit team ), therefore he/she will have access to the laboratories and equipment within these structures.
MAIN MISSIONS
MBE Responsibilities:
- Planning, monitoring and execution of MBE equipment maintenance
- Implementation of systematic growth procedures for different users
- Implementation of a performance monitoring system for the framework (through regular measurements of key performance indicators, to be determined with users)
- Maintenance of all documentation (risk analysis, operating instructions) and technical monitoring of equipment (operating logs, monitoring of indicators)
- User training
- Proposal for equipment upgrades and ways to improve safety.
- Purchasing supplies and monitoring stocks, in particular sources and substrates.
Research and development:
- Optimization of growth and epitaxy processes
- Development of semiconductor or conductive materials for photovoltaic devices
- Development of transparent materials for customer applications
- Improving the reliability of innovative, low-cost deposition processes (e.g., electrodeposition)
Cross-cutting activities:
- Improving the reliability of epitaxial deposition processes for the creation of reference layers
- Creation of a technological sharing bridge with the different themes of the research program (IMPACTS, PROMETHE, ICARE, etc.)
REQUIRED PROFILE
Knowledge: photovoltaic technologies, light-matter interaction
Experience: III-V materials, epitaxy, MBE, manufacturing processes and cleanroom characterization
You have the ability to work in a multicultural environment through good communication, demonstrate strong organizational skills and can express yourself easily in English.
