The Product Development Leader is responsible for the product design. He must understand the technical requirements (stated or not), and design products that satisfy those requirements, and which can be manufactured in a repeatable and cost effective manner.

Missions :

• contribute to the profitability of the parts developed. This will be achieved by taking an active role within the program team, having a direct impact on the following:
  • Lead part design in accordance with internal best practices when applicable
  • Implement design considerations for manufacturing efficiency, feasibility and ease of assembly. The expected result is a product that offers the best value
  • Support sales developing new customer opportunities into saleable part designs
  • Develop required solutions and supporting data in accordance with required customer timing and milestones
  • Lead product validations during design development, to avoïd engineering changes resulting in unforeseen costs / charges to L&L
• understand tool design and related processes. To have a knowledge of tooling created for specific parts, in an effort to understand the impact of future designs and/or related engineering changes, and to drive product designs that can be manufactured at the lowest possible cost
• review and approve all engineering changes
• participate and/or coordinate product design reviews
• access CAD systems for design and engineering activity
• understand basic principles of design related to L&L Intellectual Properties and awareness of potential uncertain properties which need to be avoided in part design. All parts design must be considered for such evaluation, and should be inquired upon the regional IP specialist, Director or the Director of global IP if any question about any features. In the event that a new concept as potential for patentability, or if a competitor design is in question of utilizing L&L IP, the Product Design Leader should question the above mentioned as well for direction
• submit or present, in report form if required, evaluations of new products proposals, best practices updates, training needs or any report as required. If necessary, present developed materials/technologies to the product development team and also internal departments
• be a problem solving resource for commercial team offering assistance with the analytical and testing techniques to help resolve issues
• support, when required, training and communication efforts to help proliferate new technologies
• be willing to travel as required to support the global customers

Skills required :

• Communication skills, written and oral, effective problem solving skills
• Quality Systems requirements knowledge (based on perimeter) :
• Strong knowledge of Customer specific requirements and Quality and environement Standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, EN9100,14001)
• Solid skills/Background onCore tools (FMEA, Functional Analysis, etc.)
• English and Chinese Native Speaker
