The Role
We are looking for an experienced Instrumentation / ICSS Commissioning Lead to support a major EPC energy project involving power generation and carbon capture facilities.
The position will initially focus on Home Office Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning & Start-Up (PCCSU) preparation in the Paris area , before transitioning to site execution in the UK .
The successful candidate will take a leading role in the preparation and execution of commissioning activities related to Instrumentation, Control Systems and Telecom , working closely with engineering disciplines, commissioning management, vendors and site teams.
Key Responsibilities – Home Office
- Prepare and coordinate Instrumentation & Control System pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Develop and update static and dynamic commissioning strategies, procedures, method statements and technical studies .
- Prepare loop check folders and functional tests .
- Coordinate with Instrumentation, Systems, Telecom and other engineering disciplines to ensure commissioning requirements are incorporated into the detailed design.
- Support the definition of the overall pre-commissioning and commissioning sequence.
- Support systemization activities for instrumentation and control systems.
- Ensure all components within each subsystem are covered by the appropriate commissioning test sheets.
- Identify requirements for temporary instrumentation and equipment necessary for site execution.
- Identify requirements for vendor and specialist subcontractor support.
- Participate in technical clarification meetings.
- Report technical findings and potential safety issues to Commissioning Management.
- Support preparation for control room and process building energization.
Site visits to the UK project site and a Chinese fabrication yard may be required during the Home Office phase.
Key Responsibilities – Site Execution
- Lead and supervise Instrumentation commissioning teams and contractors under the ICSS Commissioning Manager.
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with project HSE, schedule and Permit-to-Work requirements.
- Identify and mitigate operational and safety risks before execution.
- Coordinate instrumentation/system isolation and de-isolation activities.
- Participate in system walk-downs and review construction dossiers for turnover readiness.
- Supervise field testing of instrumentation, control systems and analyzers .
- Review and validate functional test results.
- Coordinate vendor interventions and technical modifications.
- Manage commissioning punch lists and drive their closure.
- Provide troubleshooting and technical support during pre-commissioning and commissioning.
- Interface with Field Engineering and Operations.
- Prepare and review commissioning documentation, dossiers, as-built records and turnover packages.
- Support final system handover to Operations & Maintenance.
Required Experience & Skills
We are looking for a senior commissioning professional with proven experience in both Home Office preparation and site execution .
Strong experience is required in:
- PLC systems
- Loop checks and functional testing
- Operational testing and plant start-up
- Multidisciplinary coordination with Electrical, Piping and Mechanical teams
- Commissioning team leadership and supervision
Experience related to the operation and start-up of machinery and industrial plants is required, particularly involving equipment such as:
- Steam generating boilers
- Steam turbines
- Mechanical drives
The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, team-building, communication and mentoring capabilities .
Software
Knowledge of:
- MS Office
Experience with completion management systems such as ICAPS, EasyPlant or equivalent would be an advantage.
Profile
- Extensive Instrumentation / Control Systems commissioning experience
- Proven experience across both engineering/home-office preparation and site commissioning
- Strong field-oriented and practical mindset
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary commissioning activities
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Availability for an initial Paris-based phase followed by long-term UK site execution
