Heavy lift engineer
Within the Project Cargo Division, you will actively contribute to the Group’s business growth in the oversized and heavy cargo segment carried on container vessels. As part of the Engineering / Transversal Department, you will be a driving force behind the Division’s transformation and innovative initiatives. You will act as a transversal expert, fostering coordination across departments to streamline end‑to‑end processes and ensure the smooth operational execution of complex project cargo shipments. You will also help develop technical knowledge and expertise within pricing teams and sales networks dedicated to oversized and heavy cargo.
Responsibilities
- Carrying out studies on potential process improvements (including HSE procedure, SOP…)
- Designing training programs and content, and ensuring proper follow‑up
- Promoting project cargo activities to terminals, pushing for structured tariff grids and challenging them through detailed analysis
- Identifying potential business opportunities and guiding terminals in their investment in handling equipment (this role may involve travel)
- Identifying potential disruptive solutions (barging, intermodal solutions, etc.)
- Providing support for complex and highly technical projects managed by Project Cargo Desks at Head Office and in regional offices
- Monitoring and driving effective coordination between various stakeholders (Sales network, Line operations, Port operations network, Logistics Department, Terminal Procurement, CMA CGM Academy, Shared Service Centers, etc.)
Skills and qualifications
You hold a postgraduate degree (Master’s level) from a Maritime or Engineering school. You have strong leadership skills and a proven track record in managing teams and projects. You demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders. You have a solid understanding of maritime logistics and/or project cargo operational activities. Project cargo experience and/or HSE experience would be a strong asset. Knowledge of ship operations and stowage planning, or experience in procurement, would be appreciated. You are fully fluent in English. You have a good command of IT tools (Windows suite, Qlik Sense) for monitoring and data analysis and/or engineering/design tools (Visio, AutoCAD, Inventor, etc.). You are influential, highly customer‑oriented, and possess strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to succeed in this position and take on new challenges within our Group.
