Head of Qubit Control
Overview
Founded in 2020 and based in Paris, C12’s mission is to be at the center of one of the biggest technological breakthroughs of the century, and change the course of history by building a universal quantum computer.
At C12, we believe that achieving a true breakthrough in quantum computing requires rethinking the fundamentals. Our founders—rooted in academic and engineering excellence—have chosen carbon nanotubes as the building blocks of our quantum processors. This ultra-pure material reduces error rates, boosts performance, and minimises hardware overhead—key ingredients for scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computing. By crafting a unique approach that scales, we aim to revolutionise quantum computing just as silicon transformed classical computing.
Since our founding, we’ve raised over €25 million in funding, published 11 scientific papers, and secured 8 patents. Today, our fast-growing team of 60, including 20 PhDs, has over 20 nationalities represented. We have our own cutting-edge lab space in Paris\' Panthéon district; where scientists, engineers, and innovators work side-by-side to tackle some of the most exciting technical challenges of our time.
Responsibilities
- Head of Qubit Control, reporting to the CTO, will lead and grow a team of quantum physicists from junior level to recognised experts, responsible for the performance of C12’s quantum operations. Lead expansion of the team to become one of the largest within the company. Focus areas include control and readout of 1- and 2-qubit gates on small- and large-scale chips, optimisation of control and readout electronics, exploration and tuning of large parameter spaces, and experimental investigation of underlying physics. The quantum chips operate at low temperatures in cryostats in our cryolab, equipped with high-frequency microwave control electronics. Enable excellence in qubit control, measurement, and calibration by structuring execution, aligning priorities, and supporting technical decision-making, while leveraging deep team expertise and working with leadership to deliver results aligned with the R&D roadmap.
What you will do
- Growing and recruiting key talents, mainly research scientists from junior level to experts.
- Fostering and maintaining high standards for project management within the team, acting as a coordinator and enabler when needed, while day-to-day execution and ownership are led by team members, with arbitration support from the CTO for deeper technical decisions.
- Defining the team OKRs under the guidance of the CTO and the R&D Operations Lead, and owning their delivery.
- Ensuring strong collaboration across teams, in particular with the software and theory teams.
- Maintaining a high level of experimental operations, in close collaboration with the support team, ensuring infrastructure reliability and efficient lab usage.
About you
- You have at least 5 years of experience leading technical or research teams composed of highly skilled members with diverse technical backgrounds.
- You have a background in physics, quantum physics, or electrical engineering or a related field; a PhD is advantageous but not mandatory.
- You bring multidisciplinary experience, including strong exposure to data analysis and/or software-driven workflows.
- You demonstrate strong organisational, communication, and prioritisation skills, enabling effective coordination across teams and expertise levels.
What we offer
- Stock options for every employee (BSPCE/ESOP)
- Two office spaces in the heart of Paris, near the Panthéon
- Sponsored trips to conferences around the world
- A dynamic international team
- Swile meal vouchers
- Vibrant office culture (team lunches, offsite events, Friday breakfasts)
- Mental health support
- Training budget / Annual Learning & Development Allowance
- Sabbatical leave (after 2 years in the company)
