Head of Global Data & Computational Science - Vaccines R&D
The role of Global Head of Vaccines R&D Scientific & Strategic Partnerships is based primarily in Marcy l'Etoile, France, with secondary site in Waltham, MA. It is a permanent, full‑time position at grade LE.
This individual will report directly to the Head of Vaccines R&D, Jean‑FrançoisToussaint, and will be a member of the Vaccines R&D Leadership Team. The successful candidate will define and execute a comprehensive data and computational science strategy that aligns with the Vaccines R&D portfolio and Sanofi’s broader digital transformation agenda.
Core Responsibilities
- Define and execute a data and computational science strategy aligned with portfolio priorities.
- Build and deploy AI/ML, bioinformatics, and computational modeling capabilities to accelerate vaccine discovery, development, and clinical decision‑making.
- Integrate diverse data sources (genomics, proteomics, clinical, and real‑world) to generate actionable insights across the pipeline.
- Partner with R&D functions, Digital, and IT teams to embed data‑driven approaches into research workflows.
- Establish data governance frameworks, quality standards, and best practices to ensure integrity, security, and compliance.
- Drive external collaborations with academic institutions, technology companies, and data consortia to bring state‑of‑the‑art capabilities into Sanofi.
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, computational biologists, and bioinformaticians.
- Represent Vaccines R&D in internal and external scientific and digital forums, positioning Sanofi as a leader in data‑driven vaccine innovation.
Qualifications
- PhD or MD/PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Immunology, or related field; MBA or executive business education is a strong asset.
- Extensive experience in data science, computational biology, or bioinformatics within the biopharmaceutical or vaccine industry.
- Proven track record of building and deploying AI/ML and computational capabilities that created measurable value in drug or vaccine development.
- Deep expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, bioinformatics, and analysis of complex biological datasets.
- Strong understanding of vaccine science, immunology, and translational medicine.
- Senior leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams in matrixed global organizations.
- Proven ability to translate complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
- Experience establishing data governance frameworks and ensuring compliance with data privacy and security regulations.
- Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset with excellent communication skills and executive presence.
- Experience engaging external technology partners, academic institutions, and data consortia is highly valued.
- Full professional proficiency in French (essential for local engagement).
- Professional fluency in English (C1/C2) for international collaboration.
