Head of Export Control: Foreign Regulations, Sanctions & Investigations
Location: Marignane, France
We are looking for a strategic leader to manage the Export Control Foreign Regulations, Sanctions & Investigations team. In this role you will be the guardian of our “license to operate”, ensuring that our international partnerships, military sales, and global support services remain compliant with the world's most stringent extra‑territorial laws.
Responsibilities
- Foreign Export Control Regulations management
- Lead compliance with applicable foreign export control regulations (U.S. ITAR, U.S. EAR, UK, Italy, etc.)
- Provide strategic guidance, training and advisory to engineering, programs, supply chain, sales, MRO and other functions on related export control items during bid and offer phases
- Support preparation and coordination of foreign export licence applications, end user statement management and authorisations, ensure collection, renewal and record‑keeping
- Interface with foreign authorities, regulators, suppliers, subcontractors and other third parties for licensing and authorisations purposes
- Anticipate and mitigate export control risks presented by the changing geopolitical landscape
- Global Sanctions & Embargo compliance
- Oversee compliance with OFAC, EU, UK, UN and other applicable sanctions and embargo regimes
- Assess geopolitical and regulatory risks impacting customers, suppliers, partners and transactions (Military End Users, BIS Entity List, Sanctioned Parties)
- Implement screening (including compliance tools monitoring), escalation and approval processes for restricted parties and countries (Human Rights Due Diligence, Sanctioned Country Process)
- Investigations & Disclosures
- Lead internal investigations related to potential export control and sanctions violations
- Manage the preparation of voluntary disclosure to authorities (DDTC, BIS, OFAC, ECJU, and others)
- Coordinate root cause analysis, corrective actions and compliance remediation plans
- Ensure close reporting to Airbus HQ in Toulouse and other tasks as defined by AH Export Control leadership
Qualifications
- 10+ years in Export Control in a multinational environment advising on international trade, with a heavy focus on Aerospace
- Proven experience in managing US ITAR/EAR is essential
- University education in Law, Geopolitics or Supply Chain
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex legal or regulatory investigations
- Experience in “disclosure management” is a must
- Knowledge of Foreign Regulations (ITAR/EAR) and UK (ECJU) plus other jurisdictions (China, Italy, Singapore) is a plus
- Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to manage a team of specialists and influence senior management
- Excellent writing skills—policy and procedure drafting, reports and memoranda
- High initiative, credibility, independence, integrity, confidentiality and trust
- Languages: Fluency in English or French required; German or Spanish is a plus
