Malt is hiring a Head of Experience Systems & AI to move its design infrastructure from a static component library to what the posting calls an intelligent experience engine. The role owns the strategic direction, governance and technical roadmap for the Experience Systems & AI team, sets the final bar for UI quality across Malt, and encodes the brand's design guidelines into the system so generated code and automated output inherit them. Reports to the VP of Design and leads a team of design and system experts alongside three systems engineers. Hybrid across Paris and Berlin.

What you'll do

• Own the strategic direction, governance models and technical roadmap for the Experience Systems & AI team
• Serve as the final voice on UI quality across Malt and define clear standards for layout, motion, responsiveness and token architecture so production code matches design intent
• Oversee the taxonomy, content logic and tone rules within the system, guiding AI models to generate copy that is contextually accurate and distinctively Malt
• Manage and coach a senior tier of specialists including a Senior Product Designer for Systems and Craft and a Content Designer for Semantic Systems
• Identify and fix friction between design assets and engineering deployments, building streamlined code generation and asset extraction processes
• Implement automated visual testing checks in the integration pipelines to catch visual regressions, token discrepancies and accessibility bugs early
• Partner with systems engineers to experiment with context-aware adaptive UI components that adjust to real-time user goals

• Systems architect mindset: you design the underlying rules, programmatic logic and variable frameworks behind the screens rather than individual screens
• Applied AI literacy: you understand how large language models handle structured data, interact with data schemas, and how to structure context to support predictable UI layouts
• A premium uncompromising eye for UI detail and the ability to codify brand DNA and high-fidelity polish into technical systems
• Driven by scale and engineering leverage, finding satisfaction in automating repetitive design steps out of the product lifecycle
• A solid track record leading small engineering-adjacent squads or design systems teams, with deep experience in design token architecture, systems management or design engineering
• Fluency in English is required
• Bonus: design engineering DNA, comfortable exploring the codebase and discussing component architecture directly with engineers
• Bonus: hands-on experience with LLM orchestration and structuring data models to bridge the gap between AI and UI
