Hardware Engineer
We are looking for a Hardware Engineer to join Ganymed Robotics’ hardware team and contribute to the design of parts and assemblies for our full robotic platform for orthopedic surgery. You will work on a meaningful medical robotics challenge in a technical environment combining collaborative robotics, a precision haptic end-effector, operating-room constraints, and computer vision.
You will own the mechanical design, integration, and qualification of our verification and validation test benches, translating the System team’s requirements into robust, well-documented test means — mechanical setups, sensors, and instrumentation — that combine engineering rigor with practical buildability.
You will also document test means in the technical file (DMR/DHF), contribute to risk management, and apply medical device design controls throughout your work.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware and electronics design
- Design parts, assemblies, and test benches in SolidWorks (CAD models, drawings, GD&T, configuration management) that meet functional requirements such as stiffness, backlash, vibration isolation, and modularity.
- Integrate sensors and measurement equipment (force/torque sensors, encoders, LVDTs, accelerometers, load cells) and electronic components (DAQ, signal conditioning, power, control electronics), ensuring proper mounting, alignment, and signal integrity.
- Develop the data acquisition and control chain, including automation scripting (e.g. Arduino, Python, LabVIEW) and instrument interfacing, in coordination with the software team for protocols such as CAN, SPI, UART, and USB.
- Deliver complete technical specifications: 3D models, manufacturing drawings, assembly instructions, and bills of materials.
Structural analysis, materials, and manufacturing
- Apply analytical methods and FEA to dimension structural elements (beam deflection, joint stiffness, screw sizing, bearings, friction/preload) and produce documented calculation notes for the design file.
- Select materials, surface treatments, and manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal, 3D printing) suited to mechanical performance, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, and cost; apply design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Manage procurement and production of parts with external suppliers, tracking lead times and validating conformance on reception.
Assembly, integration, and bench operation
- Oversee physical assembly of test benches in our fully-equipped fablab with the hardware technician; maintain assembly and mounting instructions.
- Run integration checks to confirm benches are geometrically and functionally compliant before handover to the System team for V&V execution; resolve assembly issues and iterate on designs for reliability.
- Ensure ongoing bench availability through corrective and preventive maintenance, feeding lessons learned back into future designs.
Design controls and regulatory compliance
- Maintain test-bench documentation in DHF/DMR, ensuring traceability from System team specifications through design outputs to verification evidence.
- Contribute to design reviews, FMEA, and risk management activities, applying ISO 13485 / ISO 14971 design controls to test bench development.
- Collaborate with quality and regulatory affairs to ensure documentation supports regulatory submissions (CE/MDR, FDA 21 CFR 820.30) and audit readiness.

Qualifications
You hold a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or equivalent, with 2-3 years of experience designing mechanical/mechatronic systems in a regulated, high-precision environment — medical devices required, aerospace or similar industries a plus.
Competencies
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (part, assembly, drawing, simulation); experience with PDM systems is a plus.
- Solid understanding of structural analysis, GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Hands-on experience designing and building test fixtures or benches with embedded measurement hardware, including scripting/automation (Python, LabVIEW, or similar).
- Familiarity with design controls and DHF/DMR documentation; awareness of IEC 60601 and IEC 62304 is a plus.
- Understanding of equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) and calibration/metrology traceability requirements.
