Hardware Certification Engineer - Hybrid
1. Regulatory analysis and requirement identification
Identify functional, structural, and interoperability requirements applicable to humanoid robots in Europe and internationally (e.g., US)
Map and interpret regulatory frameworks such as:
Machinery Directive, LVD, RED, EMC, RoHS, WEEE, REACH, Battery Regulation
Cyber Resilience Act, GDPR, AI Act, etc.
Translate legal requirements into actionable technical specifications for design teams
2. Design participation & compliance by design
Actively participate in design reviews to:
Evaluate the compliance of technical choices
Identify areas of regulatory risk
Suggest corrective measures early in the process
Define regulatory acceptance criteria and integrate them into product specifications
Collaborate closely with mechatronics, mechanical, electronics, software/AI, safety, and UX/UI teams
3. Testing & regulatory validation oversight
Plan and coordinate regulatory test campaigns with external labs, including:
Electrical safety (LVD) and battery compliance
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
Radiofrequency tests (RED)
Environmental compliance (RoHS, WEEE, REACH, battery regulations)
Cybersecurity (CRA) and data privacy (GDPR, AI Act)
Contribute to the test strategy for prototypes (A2, A3, POCs, pre-series)
Analyze results, identify non-compliances, and propose solutions
4. Tools, documentation & compliance milestones
Deploy compliance checklists aligned with each milestone (prototype, POC, pre-series, series)
Help build technical compliance documentation (Tech File, Risk Analysis, DoC, etc.)
Track evolving regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle
5. Technical support & R&D coaching
Provide daily technical support to project teams on compliance topics
Bring operational regulatory expertise to engineering meetings
Promote best practices in product safety and regulatory compliance across technical teams
6. Training & regulatory culture
Design and lead training sessions for R&D, Design, UX, and Industrialization teams
Raise awareness on topics such as cybersecurity compliance, data privacy, and human-robot interaction
Education & Experience
Master’s degree or Engineering diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, Product Regulation, or a related field
At least 5 years of experience in a product compliance or certification role, ideally in an industrial or hardware context
Hands-on mindset & lab interaction
Proven track record in managing product certification processes
Ability to collaborate with external labs and interpret test results
Independent thinking & professional rigor
Comfortable working autonomously with a strong sense of ownership
Attention to detail and a deep commitment to product safety and compliance
Adaptability & innovation
Keen to work on cutting-edge products
Able to tailor compliance processes to the unique features of innovative hardware
Technical Skills
Solid knowledge of key regulations and directives: Machinery, LVD, RED, RoHS, EMC, GDPR, CRA, AI Act...
Strong understanding of robotic architectures and embedded systems
Experience with compliance testing, lab coordination, and reviewing test reports
Ability to write clear, actionable technical requirements based on regulatory constraints
Soft Skills
Organized, autonomous, and able to prioritize
Strong communicator with a knack for pedagogy and knowledge sharing
Comfortable working with multidisciplinary technical teams
