Graduate Backend Engineering Programme (Paris)

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Strong foundations in programming (Java, Kotlin, or similar)
• Understanding of core computer science concepts (data structures, algorithms, APIs)
• Exposure to backend development through projects, internships or coursework
• Curiosity about distributed systems, scalability and system design
• Fluent English (written and spoken) — all communication and collaboration is conducted in English
• Structured thinking and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment

What the job involves

• Our Backend Engineering teams build the core systems that power Trade Republic’s platform
• We work on high-impact problems such as designing scalable services, improving system reliability, and enabling product teams to ship quickly and safely
• Our systems handle real-time data, financial transactions and critical user flows — where performance and correctness matter
• As a graduate, you’ll work closely with experienced engineers who will help you grow from foundational knowledge to building production‑ready systems
• Contribute to backend services using modern JVM technologies (Kotlin, Java,Spring)
• Support the design and development of scalable, reliable systems
• Work with APIs, databases and service‑oriented architectures
• Learn how to write clean, maintainable and well‑tested code
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to deliver user‑facing features
• Gain exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS), containerisation and CI/CD pipelines
• Assist in debugging, monitoring and improving system performance
• Gradually take ownership of well‑scoped technical projects
• You’ll learn how backend systems are built, deployed and scaled in a real production environment
